The hotel is somewhat modern and has a touch of the traditional onsen hostel which is neat and quiet. You can tell there are more foreign customers than the locals. The room is right in size and we enjoyed the Mountain View. The stay was comfortable and we had a good sleep (not all Tatami is comfy in my experiences). The onsen was always empty and we decided not to book the private pool as the public one is almost like a private (maybe it’s an off-peak season?)

The hotel has the Japanese architecture style which is brilliant and the rooms are amazingly spacious. We had mountain views and it was spectacular to wake up and see the snow fall outside our window. The staff members are fabulous and liking to help with anything we asked for. The breakfast is delicious on both options, Japanese and western. Loved everything about this hotel.

Such an amazing stay, highlights were meals (definitely opt in for breakfast AND dinner), the private onsen that you can reserve, and the well appointed amenities including yukata you can wear around the hotel, sake tasting, coffee and tea service, etc. hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Feels like more than a 4 star hotel. Highly recommend staying. Also family friendly, kids meals were amazing. Close to train station.

As english speakers we were happy that the staff was able to accommodate us. When we first arrived, we were immediately led to the dining area and had a choice of drinks. I was tempted by the organic apple juice made with local apples, but I got sake instead. The dinner service was absolutely amazing. Everything was plated very artistically. Our privately reserved ryoken bath was amazing as well. In the morning, I opened the curtains to the room and sat on the tatami mat in front of the tea table and drank tea as I watched the sun rise. I then enjoyed an amazing japanese style breakfast. Just all-around pleasant experience.

I enjoyed Hotel Tsubakino because it was very close to the train station. We were able to walk down a small hill and a around a corner from the train station and there it was! The staff were friendly and had us sit to explain ryokan’s and give us fresh apple juice before showing us to our room. We were able to book the private onset for four people for about $35 USD for an hour and a half. We had two people in the group who are vegetarian and they provided phenomenal traditional Japanese breakfast even with this request. I liked the variety of mushrooms, eggs, soups etc… In the morning we were able to take a taxi to see the snow monkey park. I would stay here again. It was a fun experience!!!
