We loved the views of the snowy mountains and only a short walk from the train station and close to restaurants.

We had a great stay! It was amazing to experience a traditional ryokan. The room itself was beautiful, with a nice view. The bathrooms and communal spaces were definitely dated, but had character. The owners are so sweet and willing to help you with anything. The outdoor private onsen was so beautiful and affordable. It's close to the station and some restaurants. They will give you a ride to the monkey park and you can either walk about 2 miles through town to get back or get picked up. The walk was very nice and you can see the main town.

Loved the owners, very kind and helpful. He gave us a ride the the monkey park and lent us gum boots and umbrellas. I had a 7 and 10 year old and they even had a set in the right size for them. Also the private onsen was great bc I have a boy and girl. The boy was not ready to go into the men’s side alone but also too old really to go in the women’s. So the private onsen was great so they could experience it without being uncomfortable in those situations.

The owner is super friendly and helpful, provided us with lots of additional information about the surrounding areas. The lovely Japanese-style room has decent size and a balcony where you can relax and have a drink. The place is very well maintained, with indoor onsen that you can enjoy anytime of the day. You can also book outdoor private onsen.

Very warm and welcoming. Management was very helpful and kind. Even though I have tattoos was allowed to use the onsen. I was obviously not affiliated with any gang related organization so I was filled with great gratitude to be given the privilege to experience a part of Japanese culture I’ve always wanted to try. Management also received a package we had sent in the mail since we forgot some items, and they also were willing to send mail for us if we needed it. Such great hospitality. Thank you Shimaya.

I really like the vintage feel of the place..it felt like being in Japan in the 60 s. The place was really authentic, and I could really get a sense of Japanese lifestyle. Really nice Japanese owner too. The futon were so incredibly comfortable! Most comfortable bedding I ve ever had. The bathroom were shared but extra clean.

Walking distance to the station. We were provided with a transfer to the Snow Monkeys. Free onsite onsen operating 24 hours (men only, women only plus a private onsen for one person). Western-style buffet breakfast at ¥700 - toast, boiled eggs, yoghurt, cereal, fruit.

The area is very charming and so is the building, it feels like traveling back in time. The facilities are old but work, and the owner Ichiro San is a very good host. Some English is spoken and communication is not an issue.
