The location was great with an amazing view of the lake and just what my wife and I needed on our honeymoon. It was great as a jumping off point to visit the surrounding areas like Lake Taupo itself and Tongariro National Park as we visited various Lord of the Rings filming locations surrounding and on the volcanoes. The room was clean and very spacious, with one of the largest bathrooms in our three week's staying all across New Zealand.

Lodge number 8 was very peaceful and comfortable with a decent kitchen for self catering. It's good value for money, there's a laundry and the cafe is excellent. Pleasant sitting out area. It's also sufficiently close to the National Park which was ideal for the day walks we wanted to do.

Larise was most helpful and offered us the perfect and tranquil alternative for our remaining 3 nights. The #19 villa was comfortable, well stocked for self catering and ideally located with a view of the river. On our final night we dinned in their restaurant which was seriously good!

Tony's is highly familial and chill—you will definitely chat with Tony and the other guests. Comfortable enough beds. Amazing lakeside walking and swimming. Well equipped kitchen to cook your own dinner. I would recommend writing ahead and asking if Tony can get you freshly caught trout, raw or smoked.
