The room was wonderfully decorated, very comfortable, the bathroom floor is warm !!! the view was so nice! The hotel offers warm baths and sauna, unfortunatelly we didn’t have time to use it.
Gorgeous ocean trimmed with cliffs covered by adorable puffins. Refreshingly windy. Undulating green hills will entice you to keep walking until there is no land anymore. A bit of walk from the airport, the middle part of the island holds slightly more houses, shops and the restaurant. Yes, "the" restaurant. My meal of fish of the day was amazingly good, not just the fresh fish but also surprisingly fresh salad. Check out the craft shop for local handmade sweaters. You can also sit and have a cup of coffee there. Everyone I interacted with were very nice. I hope to go back there sometime in the near future for a longer than 1 night stay.
Grimsey can be difficult to reach- 3+ hours boat journey over often rough sea- but where else do you have the chance to cross the Arctic Circle? In summer season you can see puffins, and in other seasons the Aurora Borealis. If you are really, really lucky you may even see Falki, or gyrfalcon, the national bird of Iceland!
Fantastic stay at Guesthouse Basar! Charming in every way! Great good at the only restaurant on the island. We stayed two nights photographing puffins and terns and the opportunities were phenomenal. Loved this place in every way!
