We stayed two nights at Uriel's newly constructed pool villa "Casa Cafur" in the nearby town in Santa Ana, and spent the days at his Playa Tranquila beach house (quiet part of playa Blanca)
Strong winds damaged most of the beach earlier that week so we were unable to spend the night as planned but Uriel saved our vacation with his pool villa, then we got to spend the days anyway at Playa Blanca so it was the best of both worlds. The beach is a quick 6000 peso ride from the villa.
Let me tell you, when you enter Casa Cafur you realize you are entering somewhere special. You get that "wow" feeling once you enter the doors. It's a peaceful paradise, and feels totally private. He keeps the pool clean, and the cocktails are delicious! His staff are totally cool and they take care of everything like the richest resort.
I proposed to my girlfriend at his beach house (posada donde Uriel) and when we returned to Casa Cafur, Uriel cooked us lobster and shrimp, champagne and we had the whole place to ourselves. Music, hammocks, cocktails and a clean pool.
The village of Santa Ana is cool too, we drank and danced with the locals and sharwd way too many dollar beers.
I trust Uriel and will always come back! Thank you Uriel for a special 3 days.

Wow this location is AMAZING. Truly it was a private beach all to ourselves… only one other couple there on our first night. The property only has 4 rooms total so you’re never going to have a bunch of people there. The staff were SO accommodating and patient with our lack of ability to speak Spanish. We only speak English, staff only spoke English but they always used translation making it very easy to communicate! I saw other reviews complaining about the food being overpriced and no hot water for the shower which seems silly to me after now experiencing how remote this place is! It was my toddlers first travel experience, and I was SO happy with the comfort Carey House offered. Is it a luxury hotel, no. But does it have everything you need on a remote beach location with PERFECT Carribean swimming and the best staff ever? Yes. We will be coming back!

I love how close the place is to nature, beach is amazing , the rustic cabanas are beautiful .The only thing I didn’t like it were the locals trying to sell their products in a way that can be annoying.

The only way to get from the arrival area to your hotel is to walk along the beach with your luggage or by boat. When the seas are ruff and there are no boats you must carry your luggage through the sand and water. Depending where your hotel is, that could be a mile. There is one tiny bodega on the beach to buy soda and beer and not much else. It’s best for a short stay.

Horrible place, instead of the sea breeze you'll enjoy exhaust from the dozens of motorboats and scooters cruising everywhere without any rules. They make a horrible noise all over the day, combined with loud music from each bar it caused a headache. Food and drinks are extremely expensive, we got poisoned by some food there being sick for 3 days.
Trash is everywhere behind the beach line.

Before 11 am and after 5 pm, it is beautiful.
Before 11 am and after 5 pm, it is beautiful. Between those hours, however, there are an overwhelming number of visitors and vendors. The water is full of so many people offering rides on jetskis, banana boats, tour boats, etc, that rather than smell the ocean air you smell gas. If you want peace and quiet you need to trek about 2 kms to the peaceful section of Playa Blanca.

Baru was a big surprise for us in all the right ways.
Baru was a big surprise for us in all the right ways.
Family of 3 with a 10 year old, stayed 6 days, 2 different hotels.
Beautiful white sandy beaches, turquoise colored waters and fresh sea food ( learn your prices and always check before accepting anything).
The family time spent there is unforgettable. The people are kind and respectful. The island is safe and after 4pm starts to calm down and at 7-8 pm it's quiet and peaceful.
Most people spent a day and leave, but i recommend you stay and do the activities. We did snorkeling and raccon as well as the Plancton (DO NOT MISS IT! ).

Nena beach resort AC, pool and beach beds.
Jean Carlos, the hotel administrator, was extremely attentive to our needs. He made the trip very enjoyable! This is a unique spot where you are LITERALLY steps from the sand/ocean. It's very relaxing hearing the waves and popping in for a swim whenever the mood hits you! I've been to 6 continents and by far the most novel experience I've had. My teens enjoyed the eclectic experience as well!! If you have a sense of adventure-this is for you!
Had high expectations but mostly let down. Not worth the price at all. Pretty enough grounds, definitely NOT luxury or even really on a private island. Not when you can also arrive by boat and there is a town there. Buildings/rooms nice enough, pool relaxing and pretty, bartender nice but very weak drinks. Dinner was better. Not much to do, sons liked ping pong. They also did jet ski by a private group running those - very expensive
This is one of the best properties on the island, because you're literally a step away from the water. The waters are crystal blue, and the views a once in a lifetime experience. You also get to know the other guests in the house because everyone is sharing the same common space.
Keep in mind every property on the island is very rustic, and you probably won't have much internet access - but this was a welcome break for me.
The hotel is right on a white sand beach, and all rooms have stunning ocean views. It has all the amenities we need. Though we only used our room for a day trip, we enjoyed every bit of a few hours there. One of the owner/managers arranged the transportation to go back to our Cartagena airbnb, to the extent he walked with us in the night to the cab parked some distance away. We very much appreciated it!
The place and staff are amazing!
The landscape where the hotel is located is just fantastic.
The room gives a unique and exquisite experience, including the shower. I loved it!
The owners of the hotel, Juan Camilo and his mother, are extremely kind and friendly, also the food was very tasty and a generous menu with multiple options.
I highly recommend spending a few nights there.
Contact from the hostel was great, they arranged the transport from my hotel in Getsemani to the hostel for 100,000. I had a driver collect me, drive me to Baru, where I was met by someone who helped carry my luggage to a boat that took me to the hostel - 10/10 for this part. I also had the same for my return.
The location is also great just a few steps from the ocean.
It’s a well thought hotel and as fancy as it gets when you’re in the middle of the jungle! The rooms are great, lots of room, the jacuzzi is a big plus as well as the Japanese style toilet. The mini bar is well stocked, food in the restaurants was pretty good, especially dinner with their coconut bread that I fear I will never taste again, so good 🤤
we felt safe and welcomed at soy local baru. the staff was always helpful and friendly. the room was as on the pictures and the accomodation is directly in front of the wonderful beach, the breakfast was moderate. the staff helped us with the check out and organized us a boat to the next destination. thank you so much!
This hotel was a lot of fun! Olga and her colleagues are very sweet and helpful. The food was tasty and healthy, and I liked that breakfast was included. Try the arepas and eggs, yum! The bed was comfortable and mosquito netting around it really helped at night. The water was warm and the beach was very clean.
What a great stay!
Hotel grounds are very well kept and the eco-luxury concept is perfectly executed.
The treehouse we stayed in was very nice — spacious and private. Our room had a nice terrace, with sun beds and good AC.
The staff and service were exceptional.
Nice quite place to stay.
The staff is helpful and kind. Communication with the owner was easy (English and Spanish). He arranged our transportation from/to Carthagene (taxi + boat) and our diving trip.
The room was confortable and clean.
The food was tasty.
Beautiful secluded and clean hotel with a private beach - perfect to unplug from the world and enjoy silence for a couple of days. The ocean is amazing! Yoga mats, paddle boards, canoes, snorkel all for free - big like! Plankton tour highly recommended!
This property was recommended to me by the locals, because of the great food - the food is indeed great! The hotel is intimate and small, very cosy. The beach is nice, the rooms are huge. Most of the hotel staff very welcoming and very nice.
The hotel is small but in a great location, and the staff was wonderful. They made us feel welcome, also, the food was good. Johan, the manager, was very helpful! Great place to get tours to discover the multiple islands.
We had an absolutely amazing time at Raw Koko Hotel, located in front of the Playa Blanca in Barú, offers an amazing ocean view. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable.
Hotel itself was decent for the area but the shower barely worked. the Whole playa is sketch for a gringo. Lots of hustling going on. Debit card was stolen on the boat ride. Not gringo friendly, stay away
The hotel and pool area were stunning. I loved the shower, it’s nice to have a small beach that you can access and the food portions were lovely, and huge!
