Staying with Shokinkan is an unforgettable experience. Before our stay, I contacted the owner about shuttle bus and they replied promptly. To our surprise, the owner gave us a ride from Adachi museum to the accommodation. Talking of the location, Shokinkan is inside temple complex. You need to go through the pavement of the temple to reach there. Regarding room, it is spacious and the scenery from the window is beyond expression. Green fresh momiji with red azalea. What a combination! We are welcomed with matcha and local sweet upon arrival. Before dinner, taking a shower and immersed in the bath to erase the tiredness from travel.
They provide Shojin Cuisine for dinner. No matter the food or the utensils are with high quality and sensibility. The owner’s wife suggested us the local sake, which matched with food perfectly. The location made the station very easy to access. The building is in the old Ryokan style on the inside, which makes it an enjoyable cultural experience. Tatami-mat rooms and futons for beds. Kitchen is spacious and could easily facilitate cooking a full dinner.
This hotel is just stunning. Japanese-style, with tatami floors and a great onsen, sublime breakfast, perfect amenities and extras such as manga library, it is worth a visit in itself.
Really enjoyed how every where in the hotel was tatami floored. It was so nice not to wear shoes around for a change. The spa was amazing, and I enjoyed the free ice cream and the massage chairs after the onsen too.
Great location just opposite the station. Convenience store just next to the hotel as well. Staffs are very very helpful and friendly. My friend left her scarf at an Onsen Ryokan in Tamatsukuri Onsen and a staff called them for us to check if they found a scarf. When we asked a nice cafe near the hotel, she copied a map and circled the cafe on the map and gave the map to me. The staffs went the extra miles to help us. Big bath is also very nice although it's an artificial Onsen.
This hotel was unlike any other we visited ( 13 in total during our trip!). Firstly, shoes are taken off before you reach the reception desk..this really sets the tone. The rooms were spacious ( we had a standard queen room) and you could actually open the windows to get fresh air in the room which was also a first! The Onsen was fantastic, very clean and well equipped and was open all night. All robes, socks, toiletries etc.. were provided. Just a lovely place.
The location was brilliant and was right next to the Matsue JR Rail station which made it very easy to go into Sakaiminato on one of the days. The artifical onsen was really good and the Hotel is surrounded by quite a few resturants and Izakaya's which made finding something to eat really easy. There is also a Lawsons just 2 mins round the corner.
Great location, the staff is extremely kind and welcoming, the room (double + tatami area) is comfortable. The onsen is small, but very pleasant
Hoshi Ryokan was a warmly welcomed few days …my good fortune was to coincide with Tsuwano’s traditional music and dance festival….the ryokan was positively helpful..I felt looked out for as have only a few phrases in Japanese…delicious food beautifully presented with a range of local sakes…tatami mats and futon in a gorgeous room..
The breakfast was definitely worth paying extra for, and the rooftop onsen was fantastic. They also had a very nice sauna that kept a stable 92 degrees celsius and a cold water bath that I really appreciated. Upon entering the hotel, all guests had to remove their shoes, and walking around barefoot or wearing only socks felt really nice on the tatami mats covering the floor around the entire hotel.
