Lovely place! Outstanding hospitality and breakfast, plus a quirky but nice cat who even comes with a separate user guide 🥰 very comfortable room that was clean and tastefully decorated (I got a western style room because that was the only one left, but the Japanese ones also looked beautiful). Washing facilities and restrooms also great. The Onsen and shower facilities are outside, the Onsen was nice but not very warm since the springs seem to be a bit cooler than elsewhere. Still okay and no problem booking it privately.
Note: shower facilities are not available in winter, so you have to keep that in mind.
Cat: quirky, chatty, adorable and playful but, as most cats are she has a mind of her own. Not a huge cuddle bug but peaceful and comes over eventually.
I'll definitely come back next year!

The onsen pool on the rooftop was awesome. The spa facilities were huge. You need at least 2 days to enjoy all of them. The basic room without onsen was spacious with an ocean view.

The staff were incredible, very attentive to every request- including building an entire vegetarian menu (!!!) with local ingredients for my wife (we did notify beforehand). The food overall in the dinners was outstanding, we stayed for two nights and had two completely different dishes. The private onsen was amazing, just what you need after a long day out.

Perfect location to explore Unzen/Shimabara. The owner and staffs are extremely friendly and helpful, told us their favourite onsen spots/restaurants/activities etc. We enjoyed chatting a lot :) Our Japanese Tatami room was spacious and spotless clean. Nice view from the window! We would definitely come back again.
Hot springs, Onsen was very nice! Nice to have some choice of pillows.
Outdoor onsen next to car park so it was necessary to walk out in the cold (1 minute) before getting to a bath. But by gosh the onsen water was hot! After our bath we were so toasty and warm we could have walked around in our yukata for ages! Fantastic location of hotel as next to Lawson and main info area. Good kaiseki breakfast served by genuinely warm and lovely obasan. Friendly. Just opposite a great bbq beef restaurant.
Loved the spacious 8th floor tatami room with a fantastic view of the Castle, Bridge and sea. Also the wonderful onsen and toiletries. Helpful staff.
Stayed at a tatami style room, the room is clean and comfortable. Free public bath. Location is around 10 min walk from station. Very near to bus stop, shopping mall and takegawara onsen. Breakfast is Japanese style, which is quite good.
I was guest of this Ryokan in early December and it was like living in a dream. The town is enchanting, the Ryokan is absolutely splendid and well kept, the breakfast and the dinner were an amazing experience and the personnel was kind and professional (especialy Quynh who was superkind and made my experience even more memorable). My room was wonderful, the onsen very beatiful
Ryokan Fukinoya is an exceptionally wonderful place to stay. The staff members were very gracious, the meals were amazing, and the accommodations were beautiful and comfortable. We loved our private onsen. We can't rave enough about Ryokan Fukinoya, definitely a highlight of our trip!
What a glorious find! Book this place-you will not regret it. - great location a couple of minutes walk from both A and B trams, walk to the castle and centre - beautiful hostel with lovely interior -tatami mat floors and very comfortable futons - the hostess is very sweet and the whole place has a lovely feel to it - kitchen is big - super clean - rooftop observatory and table - laundry
The staff was lovely and helpful and there’s an area where you can get a cup of tea, water etc The room was comfortable and also had a basin and toilet. Just the bath tub is shared, you’re supposed to use the onsen. They provide a yukata and slippers too. Location is good for the places of interest, but it’s far from the station when you have to push a heavy luggage and walk among the hundreds of tourists. All in all though, much better than what I thought it would be!
The hotel has an onsen, which is nice (though way too hot). The hotel had not only tv, but also a remote to access Netflix and such. The tatami+futon is a nice original touch.
