This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and a housekeeping service. Jigokudani Monkey Park is 46 km away and Mt. Kusatsu Shirane is 14 km from the ryokan. I love the variety of food on my plate when i got my breakfast and it was brought to my room on time that I requested them in. Having the Coffee maker in my room made it easier to get my caffeine fix, not that LAWSON (convenience store) was far when it was literally just downstairs, that couldn't have been closer. And that Bus terminal just outside the Hotel? right on the spot where i need it to be. And did I mention they have in-house HOT SPRING? Yeah they do!!! Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of going to the area.

Many different stuff in one meal. You don't need a lunch actually. Breakfast is also quite loaded. This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Excellent seasonal and varied breakfast options, with an attention to detail unparalleled in my travel experience. The soaking pools met our hopes and needs perfectly, and we preferred the private rooms to any of the town’s public onsens. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and the location was great—away from the hustle and bustle of the main square. Staff were incredible—helpful, welcoming, and friendly despite our limited Japanese language skills! Would highly recommend for a quiet, peaceful stay.

LITERALLY THE BEST EXPERIENCE IN JAPAN. I am a Japanese American and have been to Japan several times and have stayed at different ryokans but this exceeded my expectations. First of all, the beauty of this hotel from the moment you walk in. I literally gasped when I walked in front of the ryokan. It is so breathtaking and you can see and feel the history of this ryokan. The lobby is on the 5th floor so when you first go, it's very confusing but after your first try you can basically navigate the ryokan very easily. The hotel staff were extremely professional and very friendly. They welcome you with hot tea and a cake and explain everything in detail. You are then escorted by a staff member to your room to explain everything. I got the bigger room and OMG the room was amazing. It was worth every penny! The private onsen with the beautiful balcony! We had a fully stocked complimentary fridge along with tea and coffee. There was a kotatsu in my room, a full living room, and two beds with the most fluffy comforter ever. We also received a Kaiseki style breakfast and dinner and the service was amazing there as well. The dinner was an 11 course dinner and it was amazing! I would have stayed there for a week if it wasn't for the price. I highly recommend!

The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer. Staffs are very nice, friendly, and very service-minded. I lost my ring in the onsen and the next morning, when asked about it, they are able to return it to me.

Boasting hot spring baths in a spectacular outdoor setting by Takaragawa River, Japanese-style hotel Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku is a 10-minute drive from Hodaigi Ski Resort. It offers free Wi-Fi at the lobby and a free station transfer. The onsen is out of this world… i felt like I was in the movie. Definitely worth visiting. Built in 17th century, the property includes hot spring bath and public bath. The ryokan also features free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. We’ve stayed at many ryokan since living in Japan for two years and this was one of our favorites! It’s a pretty property run by the 15th generation owner. We had a very large room and a private dining room but the ryokan was not very large, so it didn’t feel crowded. The meals are beautiful and healthier than other ryokan as they serve The freshest vegetables from nearby farms and cook it in a “modern furnace”. They also include all you can drink sake, beer and wine with dinner! The onsen were also wonderful.

It was a beautiful stay and our first experience at a ryokan. We were made to feel very special from the moment we arrived, until the time we checked out. The meals were lovely. Lots of interesting things to try for both dinner and breakfast and dressed in the provided yukatas. We loooooved our private onsen in our room and also tried two of the three private onsens on site which can be used by any guest pending availability. Beautiful views! The town is also lovely but be prepared for the sulfur smell from the hot springs!
Western style room was great! The tatami room had ample room for several futons, in addition to a couple beds outside the tatami room. Open concept with sliding doors was great for our group (6 people) so we can chat and hangout freely, and slide the doors shut at night for privacy. Breakfast was good. The outdoor onsen was really nice.
Great highrise riverside ryokan furnished with good taste of traditional interior. Much better than many ryokans of this type which use cheaper artificial materials. The private onsen was fabulous and met our expectation.
Kind and attentive host, tasteful furnishing, everywhere seems the ownership spirit of the 5 generations (as we learned). English fluently spoken. The famous Kusatsu hot water in the house onsen. 1st class futon beds. Could not choose any better.
Location was great. The tatami room with a western bed was nicely arranged to look traditional and modern at the same time. Having an Onsen in the hotel was great. The place was so clean it felt new. Amenities were nice.
The location was absolutely beautiful, there is not a whole lot to do but it was very peaceful. Very nice and relaxing. The staff were super nice and accomodating and the onsen were amazing! I had some of the best sleep I ever had here, love the futon. There was an amazing shakuhachi performance and I will keep my stay here in my heart forever.
The best onsen ryokan we have stayed in so far. We have stayed in countless ryokans over the years, but none came close to Oyado Tamaki. Great food, great water, great location, and great staff. All our needs and request were met instantly. It is such an exceptional place, and we cannot wait to go back again.
the onsen facilities were amazing, and the Ryokan was beautifully preserved. staff were friendly and helpful
clean traditional Tatami room great Onsen facility
It is one of the most outstanding ryokans I have stayed in Japan when it comes to ambience and a sense of authenticity. The two bigger onsens in the ryokan were both quite distinguished and memorable, so I recommend trying it out. The water of the signature onsen comes naturally from the ground and you can feel the heat and bubbles coming from the stone floor directly, which is a unique experience. Food and service are also of high quality.
