Caracal Lodge, lodge in Alkmaar

Nestled in the valley of Houtboshoek and surrounded by grassy hills, Caracal Lodge is located a 45-minute drive from Nelspruit.

The units at Caracal Lodge combine elegance with a rustic bush-style atmosphere. Each has a seating area and patio, kitchen facilities and a private bathroom. Guests can enjoy garden and mountain views. Some of the units have their own private plunge pool.

The Magtree lodge is fantastic and really secluded and the surrounding nature and wildlife (giraffes!) is stunning. Loved the layout of the place and the kitchen had everything we needed too cook our meals. Really love the fact that the fireplace also doubles as a braai, for rainy days. Absolutely love the warm welcome from Craig and the recreational area. Love the fact that I didn't have to worry about getting wood for the braai and fireplace fire. While we were there on mostly rainy days, we made use of the splash pool which would come in really handy when you're visiting in the summer. Also dogs! If you love dogs, this is the place for you!

Offering views of the garden and the river, the timber log chalets at Hippo Water Front Lodge provide a rustic style outdoor atmosphere. Each chalet has a open plan deck with kitchen and dining area. Barbecue facilities are available.

An amazing place to stay in peace and tranquility. The location next to the river is beautiful and we were lucky enough one evening to see several hippos. A relaxing place with beautiful grounds and well thought out lodges.

This is just a little paradise nested on the way to Blyde River Canyon. The staff is super friendly. The property has many animals and birds. Design and decoration is outstanding with an eye for detail. Very lovely property!

    Caracal Lodge was one of the most amazing places we've visited so far. Its remote location, the amazing views when you drive to the property and the stunning beauty of the property itself: almost like heaven. Craig is a great guy and he and his lovely dogs welcomed us. We were sad when we had to leave. Next time we will definitely stay a bit longer.

    Great little getaway from a busy modern life. A little hut with an awesome Braai and campfire area. Property had lots of nice walks around our lodge and some animals.

    Incredible stay with Donald in a beautiful valley! The lodge is location quite remotely and has its own animals roaming the property. Cabins are scattered across the beautiful surroundings, with private cooking and fire making outside, with the chance that a giraffe joins you! We absolutely loved our secluded stay and the host was extremely helpful (we were not aware it was self catering but he offered home made food to us!)

    Caracal Lodge is nestled in the Lowveld mountains and brings with it tranquility and a sense of escape from the rat race. The owners are incredibly hospitable and welcoming and anything we asked for was never too much trouble. Watching the game and playing with the rescue dogs was a bonus! The cottages have great amenities with comfortable beds. I can highly recommend Magtree Lodge with no electricity and lots of privacy. The communal honesty bar and entertainment area was excellent fun too.

    The lodge is in a remote area and if you want to get away from the city and it's destruction, that's the place to be at, being one with nature👌
