It's an amazing place but some of it is being excavated and I do think the authorities could have done more to explain what is taking place and what sort of information is emerging. The views over Almeria are wonderful, worth the long climb. I also enjoyed visiting the Aljibes (cave-like cisterns) made by the Moorish builders of the castle with a view to withstanding a siege. A visit beforehand to the museum in the main square is a very helpful scene-setter.
