In the province of Bari, in the splendid Valle d'Itria, stands Locorotondo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, which owes its name to the particular round shape of the town (round place, from the Latin Locus Rotundus). Here everything is white, in a landscape enriched by trulli scattered everywhere, ancient farmhouses, olive groves and vineyards. The town is small, you can visit it quickly and you can do it at any time of the year. Wonderful in the summer, hot during the day and very fresh in the evening, enlivened by many events of international appeal and suggestive during the Christmas period, where it transforms and becomes filled with lights, flowers, decorations. There is even the House of Santa Claus ... a magical place for young and old. Locorotondo is in the center of the Valle d'Itria: 10 minutes from the baroque Martina Franca (home of one of the most famous classical music festivals in the world), 10 minutes from its sister city Cisternino, 10 minutes from the city of trulli Alberobello and only 20 minutes from the beaches and crystalline sea of ​​Monopoli and Savelletri. The houses in our towns are all painted white, because after the plague epidemic of the 1600s they were painted with lime, known for its sanitizing power and so, from then until today, it has been mandatory to paint them white. The narrow streets of our historic centers thus create a magical effect by reflecting the sunlight, creating a pleasant luminosity even in the houses at street level. The stones used as tiles on the roofs of the houses in the historic center (here called "cummerse") are similar to those used to build the cones of the trulli but not entirely! The stone is the same, but the shape is different. While those of the trulli (chiancarelle) are cut in the shape of a slice to create the typical cone shape, those of the Cummerse are rectangular.
