Más que un hotel, esto podría considerarse un homestay. Los propietarios Lily y Kakao (junto a su hijo) te reciben con los brazos abiertos, son familiares, se sientan a hablar contigo y comparten sus experiencias. Todo el personal que trabaja allí es también familia y SIEMPRE hay alguien disponible para ayudar (incluso cosas tan anectóticas como acompañarte al mercado para comprar). Las instalaciones son un remanso de paz. Tanto en una habitación como en otra. La zona común es maravillosa y llena de vida (aunque calmada). La comida es deliciosa. La organización para ir a hacer el trekking con los orangutanes fue muy fácil y nuestros guías (Wally y Sandy) maravillosos. Aunque no te garantizan ver orangutanes (obviamente), la experiencia en la selva por si misma vale la pena (con todo lo que eso conlleva). Lo que sí te puedo asegurar es comida deliciosa y muchísima fruta! Aun así, en dos días vimos un total de ¡13! orangutanes. Sobre la estancia en la selva: el trekking se adapta a tus posibilidades, intentaran elegir dentro de sus opciones lo que más te convenga. Aún así, no es un paseo. Dormir en la selva es una buena experiencia (no esperes un lodge de lujo, se duerme sobre una colchoneta colocada en un cobertizo). Despertar y desayunar con los monos observándote y bañarte en el río.. Se lo recomiendo a cualquiera!

This is a big charming, wooden house unlike anything else we saw in Bukit Lawang. It’s beautiful and has a lot of character. The location is great, up many stairs but it’s worth it. Close to nearby restaurants and ‘Jack’s Bar’ which we loved for live music and awesome cocktails in a real jungle setting. The staff are so lovely and helped us with everything we needed, they organised a trek into the jungle for us and a day trip to their conservation site where we saw lots of orangutans. Banana pancakes for breakfast were so delicious too, thank you Ridho! Highly recommend staying here!

From top to bottom I enjoyed the stay! Starting with the host, Jhony is incredibly hospitable. I don’t have enough kind things to say about him and how he treated me for my stay (More on him and the Orangutan trekking with him in the second paragraph). Not only budget friendly but very comfortable, especially compared to other properties in the area. You have your own private room and bathroom (the bathroom has a western toilet, which isn’t the standard around here). There is an actual shower (lots of other places close by are only bucket showers). The mattress is comfortable and the mosquito net doesn’t have any holes. The fan keeps the room at a nice temperate. It’s on a private road and very peaceful. The wifi inside the room itself isn’t very strong but 5 meters away is the lounge and eating area that has strong free wifi, and a pool table. The food is well priced and tasty! There are also lots of other nice food options close by just up the road along the stream for a variety. The orangutan trekking is probably why you are here! He will hold you large bag safely while you go on a tour and will negotiate a fair and affordable price for the tour depending on how many people you have and number of days you want to go for. He’s been a guide for over 20 years and made my 2 day/1 night experience once in a lifetime! We saw a dozen Orangutans and many other types of monkeys, he goes at your pace, he is very knowledgeable and hospitable. I spoke with many other tourists along the way, many spoke about their guides as kind but not so informative. Jhony could answer any question that I had and did things according to how I wanted to do them, ask and he will accommodate your style of trekking and monkey viewing. I stayed in other places in the area, and nowhere was the value for your money as here! Not only for basic budget guests.

If you want to have a good time and SEE ORANGUTANS this is the place, the team (we had two guides) knows the place like the palm of their hand, they split and search, thus, 2x chance to see orangs!! I consider this an unbeatable technique. While on our tour, we met some people that told us they saw 2 orangs in 2 days, a couple that saw 1 in their whole tour, we saw 8 orangs in just 6 hours or so!! first we saw a teen orang that started following us from the tree tops, then we crossed paths with a mama orang and her baby orang, then a single male adult, then a couple male-female, one more young adult and, THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME IN A LONG TIME, we were tubing back down the river to the guest house and we saw this HUGE orang, it looked almost 2m and like +200lbs Breakfast was good, super good KopiSusu, omelette, banana pancakes, everything was delicious!

Kupu Kupu Garden is nestled amidst the jungle, directly beside the river. It's approximately a 15-minute walk to town (30 minutes from the car drop-off point). Our room featured a balcony and a hammock, providing a delightful spot for relaxation for all of us.
