The room was very clean and comfortable with a Keurig coffee maker my favourite thing about it! Nice breakfast spread - bagels, cereals plus hot options and a filtered water station. Easily walkable to everything in Avalon, which is pretty small. Just 10-15 mins from the ferry terminal.

Very quaint small town with cute shops, restaurants, great views, and plenty to explore. Can be done on a budget, but the touristy activities will drain your wallet. Quiet town, but noisy and crowded when cruise ships pull up so plan accordingly.

Beautiful place to visit with lots of shops, restaurants, excursions and beaches. Be sure to book excursions in advance of your stay because the cruise ships stop here so most of the excursions get sold out in advance.

I loved the calm relaxing vibe.
I loved the calm relaxing vibe. It felt like a quaint sea side village from the past. Everything was very clean and the walking on the beach frontage or the walk to the casino were very pleasant for us seniors. I also saw young families with small children which appeared to be ideal for that phase of family life because the beach is so close. I hadn't been to Avalon for over 20 years and was extremely happy with the way it has evolved and the pleasant atmosphere. Enjoyed it very much, but if I come back with my young adult grand daughters, they would probably want to do more of the activities which are available.

Our observation of Avilon is that is evolving.
Our observation of Avilon is that is evolving. There are more small cars. The businesses seem to be sustainable and pretty much thriving, and all is a positive experience.
Catalina is a mere 27-30 miles from where we live in So CA, but it could be HI, South of France or Southern Italy.
I think, just go there with the intent of slowing down and enjoying slower time and removing yourself from the balance of hectic life elsewhere. It is a good place to relax.

We visited at start of January (still school holidays) and found reduced restaurant and shop options. Restaurants tended to close early.
Easy 1hour comfortable ferry crossing to island with Catalina Express from Long Beach. Saw dolphins en route.
Just few minutes walk to main town, shops, restaurants and many hotels from ferry terminal.
Plenty of walks, but hilly. Fabulous views & plants/wildlife. Mostly golf carts or bikes and limited cars/local mini bus to get around.
Easy access to public restrooms around Avalon.
Would visit spring onwards for future visit.

Avalon can be magical to visit for a couple of days.
Avalon can be magical to visit for a couple of days. Lots of activities, food options, and shopping. It's charming and beautiful. The M restaurant is one of my favorites, with good breakfast and lunch options. At dinner, it's a good Italian restaurant.
The hotel was well staffed with people who were fully knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Parker even presented us with a free bottle of wine, completely unexpected but very much appreciated. Accomomdations were small but very comfortable clean and Quiet. Very much appreciated was also the open upper deck to relax in the sun and to enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the beautiful view of the bay, boats, the bell tower chimes and the exceptional weather. Will definitely stay there again should we come to the island again.
The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of downtown so it was super easy to get to off the ferry. It is above a few shops but we had no issues with noise. It is right next to all of the best restaurants (I highly recommend Lobster trap). The room is small but cozy -its not like you are there to spend time in the room anyway. Recently updated bathroom was nice. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and they had flowers waiting in the room. Super friendly staff- highly recommend.
We absolutely loved this beautiful property. The location
is gorgeous and it was so relaxing to sit on the balcony
and enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of Catalina Island.
The kids had a blast playing Connect4- the hosts clearly have gone out of their
way to make sure that kids and adults enjoy their stay.
Everything was very clean and comfortable. it was
great to have a kitchen and laundry area available-
made our lives very easy! we can’t wait to stay here again.
This hotel has an elevator, which was much appreciated as my husband has mobility issues. Few hotels on Catalina Island offer elevator access, I discovered. They also have a pool. 99% of the folks we encountered at this hotel were very nice, especially the shuttle drivers which took us into town and back multiple times. This hotel is somewhat off the beaten path, and it was nice we didn't have to hear folks partying all night long.
The staff was great, everyone from the person at check-in to the housekeepers, the drivers who took us to the hotel and dropped off our bags, who handled the breakfast area—everyone was very helpful. I can only recall the names of Carlos, José and Daniel, but the latter's wife and her sister were also stellar and went above and beyond in their service.
the location of the hotel was perfect. Right on the main street in the heart of the action. Room was a perfect size for the family and the fireplace was a nice touch. The mall around the hotel does get a bit noisy in the AM around the coffee shop if you are around that side. If you want to sleep in, you might want a room further away from there.
our stay at Aurora Hotel was excellent. The hospitality was great, staff was very friendly.
Rooms were clean and the roof top deck is a great add on.
They also helped us check in early. And next day they hold off the baggage for us and check out.
And they ordered some deserts also as we were celebrating our Anniversary
The front desk staff, specifically Ayala, were amazing! From the time we arrived until the time we departed, they were extremely accommodating and made great recommendations on places to eat and things to do. The hotel is the most aesthetically pleasing on the island in my opinion. And the bedding was very comfortable.
One of the two best views in town overlooking Avalon and the ocean at about half the price. The property has been beautifully updated with spacious luxury suites above one of only two hotel pools on the island. The entire staff was very friendly and always helpful.
Hotel was pretty in the lobby. All hotels on the Island are close to the restaurants like this one. Friendly people on the island. Food was good at the restaurants we went to during our stay. Good choices of restaurants. Beautiful Island and beach scenery.
Great Hotel. At the end of Main Avalon street. Still walkable to Ferry dock. The room was decent size. Great shower, best water pressure I have had in any hotel ever. the Spa on site was great. I would definitely stay here again.
Room was comfortable and clean. Space was maximized for efficiency and colors were very pleasing. Location is excellent in relationship to restaurants, bars, shopping, excursions, activities and the ferry- Catalina Island Express.
Had a great stay. Right in town… water front
Had an interior room so quiet. Coffee and rolls in the morning was a great treat. This hotel is older…small rooms/dated bath. But very vintage Catalina! Would absolutely stay again!
Everything was so nice in the Hermosa hotel. We went with my daughter's dog, Benito and he was so happy and welcomed.
The staff is super friendly and helpful. Thank you all!
The Edgewater Hotel was a great place to stay on Catalina. Our room was cute and cozy, and the bathroom was very clean. It's located in the center of town so that was a plus.
There were worms in the mattress. Instead of getting other room, the manager told us to leave the hotel after one night.
And to this day, we haven't received a refund.
I had a great night's sleep in a room filled with lovely natural light. The hotel's location is convenient, just around 400 meters from the ferry pier.
