Auburn is a great Sierra foothill community with a rich history and lots of great outdoor adventures (hiking, mountain biking, kayaking) nearby. There are plenty of great restaurants, galleries, live music venues and an old theater that routinely holds interesting events - such as the screening of a documentary "River Runner" while we were there. We ate at Crudo, a new asian/fusion restaurant and it was fabulous. Other guests ate at a wonderful Mexican restaurant near our inn. We walked from our hotel to the State Theater and drove down to the nearby confluence of the North Fork and South Fork of the American River for a wonderful picnic and some wading in the river.

Motels are too expensive.
Motels are too expensive. Motels most won't work with you on anything. Just say that's the way it is here,were an expensive place. But it's not far enough in resort areas or national forest like lake Tahoe or with casinos like Reno to warrant such high prices,for average motel name brands. One caution most everything in Auburn is on a hillside so be prepared to exercise your legs. My interactions with the front desk was always good, the bed was comfy, it was a decent hotel for the price. My only complaint is I am one hundred percent sure my daughter was but by bed bugs I know what the pattern looks like, so when we got home I had to throw away multiple items, sanitize and wash our stuff in scalding hot water multiple times.MeaganUnited States
