Room is quite spacious, enough space to walk around and lay out our luggage. Ample electric sockets, and good WiFi. Furniture a bit dated but kept clean. We got a room on its top floor with a great view. Wasn't that many dishes for it buffet breakfast, possibly due to the lack of guests, but still it's good enough. Hotel staff are extremely courteous, be it at the reception, or inside the restaurant. There's a Mitsukoshi mall next to the hotel, with a supermarket and drug store. It's about 10 min's leisurely walk from Yamagata Station, and in between you'll pass by some restaurants and convenience stores. Not really that close to the station, but the room rate is generally cheaper that some others around.

The Yamagata Ski area (Zao Onsen) is fantastic. It wasnt crowded, lessons for kids and adults were AUD$55 for 4 hours, lifts were @4$ per lift. Gear hire was AUD$65 for 2 days PP. In Australia lift passes are $250 per day alone. The hotel Sailor Hutte was literally at the base of the ski lifts. Food was cheap ($10-14 per meal) booze was cheap ($3.50 for a beer). The guys at the Hotel Sailor Hutte were great, make an effort to chat with them via your translator app. Its worth it. One more thing, I would recommend buying Shinkansen tickets directly from JR East rail online. Heaps cheaper than buying a seven day pass unless you are planning to spend 7 days on the train. FYI there are 3 Shinkansen companies East, Central and West. They have there own websites a bit clunky in English but it works. Good luck.

Yamagata is a beautiful mountainous prefecture.
Yamagata is a beautiful mountainous prefecture. There are many places to visit and things to do. We rented a car and I believe this is a must if you want to sight see and time is an issue for you. By car from Yamagata train station, Zao Onsen is about 40-50 minutes away, Ginzan Onsen an hour, Yamadera about 20-30 mins. If you are into photography, there are many great landscape photos you can take here.

Not very famous place for travelingas not much to see in the city.
If you could have a car or rent one, could go more places.
Basically in Yamagata prefecture, public transportation doesn't cover much as it is not a prefecture mainly for sightseeing though there are several nice places to go.

Yamagata is ideal as a base to get to Zao Onsen and Ginzan Onsen. There are bus and train connections to these two incredibly beautiful places. We also took the train through beautiful mountainous countryside to the coast to Matsushima, one of the three most beautiful places in Japan. Climbing 1100 steps at Yamadera was exhausting but so worth it when you saw the view over the valley. This area seems to be undiscovered by western tourists yet.
Close to the JR Yamagata station. A Max Valu supermarket is also just right around the corner.
Room is what you expect from standard Japanese business hotel. The TVs show you how busy the public bath is and if the washer and dryers are occupied. WiFi was also pretty good.
Free breakfast was great. I read another review that said there wasn’t a lot of variety, but there was very good variety in my opinion for a free breakfast. Good mix of Japanese and Western items. It gets pretty busy, though.
Spacious room. Smart TV that allows you to watch youtube/ netflix on big screen if you don't understand Japanese programs. Good quality communal kitchen. Big fridge, nice island counter for stove and wash basin. There are vending machines for toiletries, snacks, drinks and instant noodles. The smoking room connected to the kitchen has good ventilation such that no cigarette smell escape into the non-smoking area.
Simple self check-in with machine with passport scanning. Helps keep cost down?
The hotel is in a central position, near the railway station, in an area with a lot of restaurants and shop. At 1st floor there is a direct access to a convenience-store, so useful in case you need something last minute. Check-in time very fast. The rooms are quite small - but this seems to be the standard in Japan - whereas the bathroom is bigger than the standard, with big shower box and bath-tub. Possibility to choose between asian or western breakfast.
A stunning view of the city, the moon, the stars, and the distant mountains, from the hotel's window! The location is very central buses, the train station, taxis, restaurants, and shops are all very close at hand. The staff were always willing to help. Plenty of amenities are left out for bathroom necessities. The building is very quiet which enhances the relaxation of the stay. Several speedy lifts give easy access to the rooms and the shops. Very nice!
The location is great! Out from the Station, turn right. Walk about 40m is the door to the hotel. No need to get out of the station building. Excellent especially during Winter. Front desk staff spoke good English & extremely helpful. Rooms were in good size. You have YouTube & Netflix available on the TV. 1st floor leading to a supermarket & food outlets. So convenient! If in Yamagata, will definitely come back here again.
Our room was absolutely amazing, we got the suite with onsen on the veranda. The onsen on the top floor had a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. The dinners were delicious and the souvenir shop had a nice selection of goods. Interior design of the hotel was very interesting, fun to explore. Overall service was impeccable, very friendly and helpful staff.
Great host, young and helpful. Plus listening to their own path breaking story was so much refreshing. Breakfast was simply awesome! After hearing from me that I like Japanese food a lot but do not cook at home, next morning they served me a delicious and unique Washoku breakfast. So much more value for the money you pay.
The location was super good, very near to the station. The japanese breakfast was tasty. We got a room on one of the top floors so the room view was very good, we could see over the whole city. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a nice design. The front desk staff were helpful. Good value for the price.
Had everything we wanted and needed - helpful and friendly staff, washing machine use, convenient to station for day trips, walking distance to some sights in Yamagata city, comfortable bed, espresso coffee machine used at breakfast and in the afternoon.
Spacious room, renovated ambience, good amount of amenities. Hotel staff were kind and very helpful. I stayed with family (2adult, 2kids) the twin beds were wide enough to accommodate. Room is bigger compared with similar range of hotels in Japan.
Not that far from the station and this was the cheapest hotel in the area at the time.
Room was big enough myself and bed was comfy enough. Just don't expect so much from this chain of hotels except a place to sleep at night.
Nice and cheap hotel to stay in. For a very cheap price hotel with buffet breakfast in Yamagata is very rare. So, this is one of the beat hotels to stay in Yamagata station. near by convenience stores and restaurants.
I love that it is super close to the station and there is a direct passage from Yamagata station to this hotel, so you dont need to go down to the main street. I also like the Yamagata city view from our room
The breakfast. Actually was one of the best breakfast I ever had in a hotel. Japanese style breakfast, very very good.
Staff speaks English very well.
