Wow 🤩…for me, this accommodation was all about the staff and the cuisine. Giovanni, was super kind and courteous and delivered a meal that was, by far, the best I had in 21 days in Japan (and I was eating 2-3 dinners a night 😉). I had the 7 course local beef meal. Each plate was delightful, creative, with well-sourced ingredients, and incredibly tasty. Highlights were the laurel smoked and charred fish (something like a Bonito), and the Wagyu Beef. My goodness, the beef was one of a kind and perfect. Definitely don’t miss out on the outstanding wine from the Gerona region of Italy. The wine and beef as a pairing was unforgettable. Giovanni also drove us to the kumano starting point following breakfast 🙌. Yukata, was super kind and courteous, and delivered a breakfast that hit all marks. Fresh greens from a garden, perfectly cooked eggs, delightful homemade bread. Thank You. Viktor, from southern Germany, was super kind and courteous, eager to help you feel comfortable, great energy and neat conversation. Thanks. Best team and meal in Japan. 👍👍👍 Super value for the quality, sourced ingredients, professionalism, and care. If offered, seize the opportunity for the beef, and multi-course meal.
Renovated from a traditional Japanese-style home into a guest house, the CUE is set in Tanabe of Wakayama Prefecture. Kii-Tanabe Station is just a 2-minute walk away from this property.

I was lucky to have the place to myself. Location was great. Nakamura San recommended a nice restaurant nearby called Ichiyoshi. Staff isn’t on site but I was ok with that.

The private house was right on the Kumano.
We stayed only one night but wish it was longer.
Shino is the perfect host! After eating breakfast at her cafe, we went to board the bus across the street. I completely forgot my bag. Shino made sure I got it back! She had the bus company flag down the bus we were on and delivered it to me.
Her homemade meals and warm accommodations will not be forgotten any time soon!!

Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.

A great little town, and ideal jumping-off point for the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage.
The pub quarter was a fun place to get a drink and dinner: great Tako Yaki.
Both the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre staff and the Kumano Kodo Travel staff were impeccably professional and helpful in making arrangements for the pilgrimage walk. Cannot rate their quality of service highly enough.
I spent a night at Tsukasa hotel before the komano kodo trail. When talking about my project for the next days during the check-in, I asked the owner if it would be possible to keep my luggage until the return in his place. He directly went the extra mile suggesting to ship by post my luggage to my next destination, which was incredibly helpful.
I recommend this place and thanks again Tsukasa hotel for the support.
The owner Kohei san was very accommodating. I really felt I was home.
The coffee was great. You can have it anytime you want.
The onsen was perfect to relieve your tiredness after the hike. I really liked it because you can enjoy the onsen by yourself.
I chose japanese breakfast during my 2days stay. It was perfectly enough to start my day because I had a long walk in Kumano Kodo.
Overall, it was a decent stay for the price. Lady that met us was friendly and helpful - provided maps, bus schedules, tips, and nearby restaurant recommendations. Facility was rustic, and we were the only guest that stayed the night so that was a plus. Close to Kii Tanabe Station and just 15 minute walk to the waterfront (Ogigahama Park) for a beautiful sunset.
The hotel is really comfortable, our room had a kotatsu in it. A mexican restaurant is part of the hotel. You can relax, eat and drink there (it stays open until late). The hotel provides sandals for you to walk to the onsen on the river.
The location is great (near bus stations).
The owners are the best, super kind and welcoming.
Thank you very much!
The guesthouse nestled in a quiet village amongst the citrus orchards, is nice and comfortable. Simon, the owner, is welcoming and gave us a lot of information on the area. The stay includes transfers from Kii-Tanabe and to Tsajikiri oji, where the Kumano Kodo trail departs. It’s very convenient.
Japanese style room in traditional house in the alley close to Tanabe railways and bus station. Nearby there are plenty of small restaurants and it is at 50m from a main road with all shops. Common kitchen and bathrooms. Friendly owner. Shared living room with local interest books available.
Check in and out was super easy. Very comfortable as we needed a place to stay as we walked the Kumano Kodo and it was difficult finding a place that was available so we were so grateful to have this option. Highly recommend for those wanting something simple and available.
Super nice place, I loved it. You can easily start the Kumano Kodo from there. The owner is a great guy. He offered to pick me up from Tanabe station and gave me a ride to a supermarket so I could get vegan food. Thanks again! 🙏
I would def stay there again.
This was my last stop on the Kumano Kodo (hiked in reverse) and the experience here was truly special! The owners were incredibly kind and helpful and the food was spectacular. Definitely would come back here the next time I am in Japan.
Mr Koji was super helpful and friendly. The house really feels traditional Japanese with such a special feeling and atmosphere. People like to go there before Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Location is great and there is all you need.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Kii-Tanabe station. The room was warm (winter) and clean and the bed quite comfortable.
Breakfast at the GF bar was delicious. One can choose between Western and Japanese. I chose Japanese.
Very kind host, we had some nice talk with host about Japan. He cooked us really delicious okonomiyaki. It was nice diner and breakfast with other guests. We tried sake. Everything you want after long Kumano Kodo walk! 😊
When I first saw the outside of the hotel, I thought it looked shabby, but my room was great, location was only four minutes walk to the station and tourist information centre and the breakfast was excellent.
It was an incredible deal. It is no frills but just what you need to start your Kumano Kodo trek. I like the open kitchen to heat my water before my trek.
