Definitely not your usual accomodation. It is a full blown experience. A 5-storey castle where every single corner of the house, every centimetre of space, of wall, of floors, is filled with history and magic. You can cook in the perfectly well equipped kitchen, but you can also spend time admiring the original copper pots and pans (each of them a work of art in itself) or the 3-meter high massive wooden cupboard. Or you can choose to spend time in the "living room" (it is about 100 sq meters!) to play snooker or simply browse through the old photo albums to discover more about the castle's recent history. If the weather is nice, you can spend time strolling in the huge and beautiful French garden. Prince Nicolas, the landlord, is just as quirky as his castle. Don't expect a traditional innkeeper, just a gentleman, unapologetically himself, welcoming you to his home.
Excellent location, very close to the Doubs and the Swiss border. Best to reserve in the restaurant as our first night we had to dine elswhere in the village. We assumed, as residents of the hotel we would automatically have a table....
The food was very good and good help from the wine waiter in order to choosean appropriate wine. Our room, which was very comfortable, overlooked the village and the valley of the Doubs - wonderfully quiet and a great opportunity to view the night sky without light pollution. We would definitely return.
I stayed here on a roadtrip with friends in 2018 and wanted to return, bringing my wife, to share the stunning location and sensational signature dish fricasee of morel mushrooms. Those expectations were fully met, the food is still superb, but expensive. The hotel still feels like the very traditional family owned place one might find in a 1950s film.
The hotel is overlooking the valley of the Doubs, the view and the location is nice. The house is clean and there is space in the lobby if you want to spend time out of the room. The hotel has a nice terrasse and my room had a nice big balcony, unfortunately I could not enjoy those places as the wheather was too cold. The bed was comfortable.
We found the breakfast area to have a lovely view and what was available very satisfying indeed. The restaurant is classy and the food very good indeed. The view from the place is lovely and the grounds around the hotel well kept and beautiful.
The area is really astounding.
Very friendly people, very good food … excellent location looking over Goumois … I liked the vintage atmosphere in the hotel over 100 years old.
Room was comfortable.
