Clean and tidy. Basic and rustic but a great base in beautiful countryside. More functional than finesse. If you need superb attention to detail this is not for you. Around 20 minutes from the motorway. Extremely remote with some ‘interesting’ access roads. No other buildings nearby. Breakfast was simple and pleasant in a shared communal room which was warm and friendly. We did enjoy our stay and we wish we could have taken advantage of the beautiful countryside more. Visit the gorgeous stables to see the horses (which you can book to ride). 3 star kind of rating.

Charming village house overlooking the chateau in a village so beautiful and quintessentially French that you feel like you’re on a film set. The house itself is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped - only wish we could have stayed longer! Excellent baker for morning bread and croissants just a 100m away. Beautiful countryside - well worth visiting.

Perfect property for our stay. Very well appointed, comfortable and characterful.
The scenery is fantastic, and wonderfully peaceful.
We would definitely look to stay again.
Friendly welcome - rustic charm in a historic setting.
Friendly welcome - rustic charm in a historic setting. Could benefit from less steps for the older generation! Excellent dinner in glorious surroundings Very peaceful in a small village yet convenient for the motorway. We will return.
Lovely old building next to the abbey in Auberive - a small place which you can easily walk around. The proprietors were very welcoming and the dinner was excellent. It was also nice to have a traditional French breakfast served to you rather than the continual hopping up and down you get with the large buffets which seem to be standard in most hotels these days. Our room was lovely with all the old stone and beams and warm despite the first frost we have seen this winter. We will return.
What a lovely pit stop, en route to the south of France. We were warmly welcomed and the evening meal was delicious. It was very interesting being surrounded by medieval history. The village is beautiful and peaceful and even provided us the opportunity to recharge our electric car, which was a great bonus. I would highly recommend this fascinating hotel, but not for those who have mobility issues, as there are lots of different levels. We look forward to returning again.
The only disappointment was the fact that to charge the electric car we where directed to the charging station in the village center as there was no charging station at the hotel. I feel this should be stated in advance by booking.com as this plays a large role in the planning of a journey by electric car.
The hotel is located on the edge of a lovely quiet village, next to a beautiful old abbey which is now an art museum. Sadly, we had no time to visit it, but will next time. The interiors are like something out of a period movie. The hosts are very friendly and the food was delicious.
Like stepping back in time. A medieval building given a new life - very characterful, well thought out and full of artefacts.
An excellent stay for those who are looking for a bit more character than all the other hotels.
