Ruse is a very small town. The restaurants are quite good and the prices are very affordable. It also felt very safe to walk around. Like most of Bulgaria, the first trip on your own could be a little bewildering. Try not to use chain hotels and restaurants - customer-service is not part of staff training!! Ruse is a very sweet town on the Danube River, with beautiful architecture. We only spent two nights there but enjoyed some very excellent meals and did a little shopping. We also drove out to the Basarbova monestary nearby. .

Wonderful peaceful city on the Danube. The best gateway into Bulgaria. Often people are just passing through before or after crossing the Friendship Bridge by car or train, but it is definitely worth stopping a while.SusanBulgaria

Even the sound of hoovering outside the room at 18.30pm didn't exactly ruin the moment. This relic is apparently the tallest building in Ruse. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. Pets are welcome at the Grand Riga hotel.
