Luigi and his wife are exceptional hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. The home cooked food is delicious and the choice for breakfast is superb. I am gluten intolerant and every effort was made to cater for me. We had the attic room which was spacious and spotlessly clean, although low ceilings would not suit taller guests. Beautiful location in the Tuscan hills, within easy walking distance of Buggiani Castello, Colle di Castello and Massa.

Wonderful place. The owner is incredibly friendly and was there to welcome us. She was always available to answer questions. The apartment was very clean, looked after, and cosy. There is place to sit outside too. It's a very quiet location but close to shops and a couple of restaurants within walking distance. More restaurants available within a 5-10 minute drive. The pool was also fantastic, and cleaned every day.

The owner Cristiana made us feel like family and right at home from the beginning, making us a caffe and making sure we had all information necessary for a great and safe trip within the area. Her English is exceptional (we’re working on our Italian! :)) ) and she gave us a tour of her gorgeous property, wedding venue and a complimentary bottle of wine to begin our stay. We were sad to leave and cannot wait to come back with more of our family! Il Pillone carries the heart of what we love of the people, culture, peace and beauty of Italy. The facility is really recommendable. After renovation, clean, fresh. Ideal environment, among olive groves. Close to everything, to the sea, to the mountains, to Florence / Pisa / Lucca. The owners were very nice and helpful.

Gianluca is a very friendly host, and a great source of advice on activities in the area. And the location is spectacular, right in the middle of the ancient hilltop settlement, next to the medieval church that opens its doors Sundays.

This place is so lovely!! Everything is extremely clean. The Italian lady that runs the place is on top of everything!! She is such a kind person, It’s very amazing, we really felt pampered. The breakfast its very complete, with fresh baked pies and cakes, eggs, Tuscany cheeses, Tuscany hams, cereals, etc. She offers cappuccinos, omelets… you call it. In the lobby there’s always hot water and a good variety of teas. There’s also coffee and cake… plates, spoons.. The property it self it’s amazing, you really get that Tuscany vibe, specially since the owners are italians. The place has lots of different fruit trees. When we visited the cherry trees were full of fruit and we could eat it. They are persimmons, blackberries, olives, apricots.. There are many places in the property to barbecue, we didn’t barbecue , but I saw they were dedicated areas with seating, equipped with sinks to wash, cut and the grills. The list of good things goes on and on. I never write long reviews, but this place definitely deserves to be recognized, specially when they are family business. We visited from San Francisco, California, and we absolutely loved this place. Look no further and stay here, you won’t regret.
