Get there early and head to the Osuary complex so you can have it all to yourself. Most people go the other way. The night show was cool, but not required, the daytime is a requirement for every explorer!

Stay in Valladolid and drive-- or better yet stay in Piste- and walk to the ruins and get there when they open at 8am. On the Sunday morning we arrived at 830am, there were less than 25 people that we could see-- total-- and no vendors yet. Our photos of the main pyramids have literally zero other people in the background, and we saw lots of colorful birds and enjoyed the empty grounds. By the time we left at 11:30am, there were 3 or 4 thousand people there, mostly arriving on tour buses from Cancun, and the vendors were aggressive and noisy and it was less appealing of a destination. YES get there as early as possible.

Always impressive to visit but too crowded and touristy the last couple of times. The parking lot was only available for tour vans and buses so struggled outside to find a parking spot. Had to walk 600 meters to get to the ticket booth. Next time I'd go as early as they open to avoid crowds, heat and parking issues.

    Chichen Itza is amazing!

Chichen Itza is amazing! Well worth suffering the heat and bugsI (even in February) There are lots of vendors selling their wares. I've read that they are not usually handmade, which would explain why so many things were only ONE Dollar! Heard someone say not to buy wooden masks etc as they would not pass customs. Bring: hat, bug spray, sunblock, water. C.I. is very isolated. There are tour buses that take you from Cancun to CI. It's a full day and usually about $120 dollars. Be careful not to confuse dollars and mexican pesos. At this time the peso is about 20 cents so 100 pesos is $5 dollars. I recommend bringing a debit card and some mexican $. ( Can be purchased beforehand at AAA) Wear sturdy closed toe shoes as it is very dusty and rocky. No stairs, however. If you take a tour, they will feed you lunch about 2 pm. Bring snacks if you are accustomed to eating lunch earlier. Be on top of your email and messages as the tour originally said they would pick me up at my hotel, but changed to another hotel the day prior to the tour. If you don't take a tour, I would rent a car. Bus and taxi connections aren't the best. I took a taxi from Mayalands hotel to Valladodid for about $35. Then I took a bus to Cancun central bus station, then a taxi to the airport. I spent about $75 and it took the better part of the day. Taxi's from Mayalands to the airport run about $200 US. BTW, the tour takes you to a cenote where you can swim. Bring your suit and a towel, plus water shoes. The trek at ILKIL was about 100 stairs and slippery. One last thing, as of February 2022, one must wear a mask in Mexico ALL THE TIME.

It’s definitely worth it booking a tour guide as there’s so many details that need to be pointed out in order to appreciate the experience. Though most guides seemed to be asking for 900 pesos, which felt too steep. So we were actually very lucky to find a guide called Miguel who goes around in a little car (as he’s disabled), who charged us 500 pesos and gave us an amazing tour. Also, you’ll find there’s LOTS of art & souvenirs for sale, and they’ll quote you double the price if you can’t speak Spanish… so I’d suggest waiting until the end and buying whatever you like after you’ve seen all the stalls and haggle!

This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained.

This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained. Kukulcan is amazing but you cannot access or climb it. Doing this ruin with a guide was essential as the experience would have been much less without the knowledge a guide has.

Our plans changed and we were able to change the date of our booking last minute. The staff welcomed us, the room was clean spacious. The beds were very comfortable and everything you need was in the room. The breakfast was very good and again the staff was really nice. The hotel is a 4 minute drive from Chichen Itza. The hotel even helped us with a guide speaking our language. When we came back (we already checked out) we had some lunch and the manager also invited us to have a swim in the pool in the lovely garden.

Good value for money at this basic accommodation which felt luxurious due to materials used in building construction. Clean with bug screens on windows, AC in the room. This property is less than 5 minutes (driving) away from the entrance to Chichen Itzá, making it an ideal base to explore the park from. The Casa de Las Lunas has parking available onsite secured behind a gate. If you stay here, pop up the street to Las Mestizas restaurant and order the Sopa de Limón. You won’t regret it!

The property was decorated in a vibrant and creative way. It was a very comfortable and clean hotel and the staff was exceptional! Providing great recommendations and service. The restaurant at the hotel also had delicious Yucatan food and the price was better than other restaurants around Piste. The front desk also recommended Ek Balam and Ceynote Tsukán to us much were much quieter after Chichén Itzá and Ik-Kil on our first day.

Huge room, nice pool. Friendly supportive staff. Dream-location near the temples, with the sounds of the jungle. Restaurant appeared to be very good and we returned there even. We don't do that normally. Also, during the day you can have lovely snacks/drinks at the pool which is great when you come back after some hours at Chichen Itza, which is really nearby and you can be there, long before the crowds come. We loved it !

Really close to the Chichén Itzá site allowing you to be among the first to visit the site in the morning. The hotel organized a tour with a very knowledgeable guide at a good price which made our visit of Chichén Itzá unforgettable. Hotel has a beautiful garden and pool area and the staff was extremely friendly. We were almost the only guests, but all services were available, including delicious food in the hotel restaurant.

Exceptional stay. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, really great location to chichen itza - for this reason alone it is a worthwhile stay! However, what made it even better was how polite and helpful the staff were - especially in organising a well-priced driver to take us to the next stop on our holiday - Merida. Also worth mentioning is the hotel restaurant, the ceviche and mayan dishes were wonderful!

I am so glad we decided to stay in Piste to get to Chichen Itza early before the buses, it is around a 20 minute walk. The secure private parking was a real bonus as street parking can be a little stressful! The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room had a lovely outdoor seating area and the bed was one of the comfiest on our trip! Highly recommend this property.

Nice clean rooms in older hotel. More like a motel with connected rooms opening to the outside. Good restaurant, simple good breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. Two clean swimming pools. It's in the jungle across from a Cenote, and ten minutes to the entrance to Chichen Itza. Only down side was low or no wifi in the room I had to use outdoor seating near the office.

I love the natural pool. Also having 2 pools at the property is wonderful. The rooms are quaint and comfy and the relaxed atmosphere is calming. Location is great for seeing the ruins. And not just Chichen Itza, Ek Balam and some beautiful centoes are nearby as well. Also the hot water is awesome and water pressure is great.
