Don't believe the online videos or guidebooks that say that the whole of Meknes is a building site! While there is a lot of renovation going on, there are still marvelous things to see and do. The medina is very interesting and comes with very little hassling. Its worth taking a day trip - or longer - to the mid Atlas mountains.

I didn't enjoy Meknès itself that much but I would certainly recommend visiting the partially restored Roman city ruins of Volubilis. It's about a 45 mins drive up the mountains. Keep your speed limited to 60 km/h though as there are a lot of police speed traps! It costs 70 dh to enter the grounds and around 200 dh to get a guide to show you around (mine spoke excellent English).

We only stayed 1 night to see Volubulis.
We only stayed 1 night to see Volubulis. We should have stayed longer. The vendors had quality merchandise and prices were by far better than Fes and Marrakech. Our hosts were very hospitable. The room was comfortable and beautiful. This town is the real heart of Morocco.

Many attractions are covered up, undergoing constructions.
Many attractions are covered up, undergoing constructions. Not much to do here for 3;days.
Medina: alleys are dusty, lots of cats poop along the way. Cats roaming these alleys look dirty and sickly.
Better Options: Stay in Fes and just travel to Meknes for a day to see some attractions. Train ride to Meknes is only 28 dirhams one way. Option 2 - stay in a riad in Meknes for 1 day.

Relatively relaxed and hassle free.
Relatively relaxed and hassle free. A lot of renovation is going on (September 2023) so some monuments and museums are closed. The Jamai museum is excellent. Nearby Volubilis is also well worth a visit. Fez is roughly an hour away by car/bus/train so an easy day trip.

Meknes is going thorough significant change and refurbishment - especially the medina and square. The souk are no longer traditional - they are markets catering to local people. The city clearly has some fantastic history and the Riad we stayed in was part of that but I didn’t see enough attraction for more than a very short visit. If you are visited Volobulis, I would recommend staying in Moulay Iddriss instead.
I liked the location as it is a 10DM taxi from the train station and to the medina. Their are some restaurants that are nearby and it is an easy walk to BIM and Carrefour grocery stores. The room was clean, had good internet connection, comfortable bed,, hot shower, good refrigerator and good heating. The breakfast was great as they had many pastries, tea, eggs cooked to order at 7:30am. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel for a great visit in Meknes.
The best Riad during our Morocco round trip that we stayed in, I can say that with my whole convincement. Marvellous architecture, beautiful and cozy rooms and highly clean bathrooms. It was a worthy conclusion of our vacation, and even though we missed the breakfast because of our early departure, we enjoyed the time here very well and felt like greatly welcomed guests. A big thanks to the host that was really sympathetic and heartwearming, it was a pleasure to be around him.
Perfect location: 5 mn walk to the medina and adjoining the beautiful golf course.
Nice, comfortable room, made up nicely every day.
The hosts, 2 charming ladies during the day and 1 guy overnight, are amazingly nice and available to satisfy all your needs.
Nice breakfast and lovely rooftop.
You can’t go wrong booking s room in this hotel which has a riad feel really.
A plus: parking right in front of the property.
Many thanks and see you again!
Really lovely Riad. By far the best we have stayed in during our visit to Morocco. The hostess is so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is superb and I would definitely recommend eating dinner here too. The food is delicious and varied.
The decor is traditional and very well maintained. We initially only booked for 2 nights but extended our stay for another 2 nights and would not hesitate to return. I real home from home.
This small hotel is Cosy and clean. It's in the best location of the city, easy to get around by local taxis. Amazing restaurants around too. It's not far away from the Medina, which is amazing! The best part was the food. I give that 5 star! Moroccan breakfast, large portions with great selections. One more thing, we booked and went in to check in immediately, they were so accommodating they let us check in earlier!
Well located in the medina - only a short walk from the Place Lahdim. Easy to find and to get to - the signs are easy to follow. Exceptional hospitality. Their chicken tagine is one of the best I had throughout my trip in Morocco (and they pulled it together with only an hour's notice). The area around the Riad is very walkable. I also loved the garden in their central courtyard. Definitely a place to relax and enjoy.
This was our favorite Riad in Morocco! Beautiful and authentic it was like a mini museum with amazing architecture, handicrafts, photos and books! Our room was exceptional and well appointed. The rooftop decks had amazing plants everywhere. The owner spoke excellent English and she was so helpful in setting up a taxi for us. We were bummed we couldn't stay longer. We also really liked Meknes.
I have stayed in hundfreds of hotels in many countries in alll corners of the world but this medieval riad in the middle of the beautiful medieval medina of Meknès is magic and one of the most special Places I have ever stayed. Fantastic rooftop terrace where we had our dinners and extremely helpful and friendly people working in the riad. Thank you so much for this experience!
The hotel is in the old part of the city so it is very close to shops, the market, and cafes. Everything is within walking distance. The staff is extremely helpful and very kind. It was definitely great to have breakfast up on the roof every morning. I even had a friend (who was not staying at the hotel) come have breakfast with me and they did not charge us anything extra.
Gorgeous looking place and very friendly staff members and the manager is nice allocating and polite like everyone else I have met in there.
The breakfast is delicious and fresh. The room is clean and spacey, It is located near all the historical places in which you would like to visit.
I highly recommend this place to stay if you want a taste of Morocco and Meknes.
I love the place, my room was comfortable and the bed too. The Riad was so quite and the breakfast was great. The Riad makes you feel that you are really in Morocco, I like the interior and the old doors. And of course, Rachid was so helpful and so nice to during my stay. He even help me out to order Tagine and deliver to the Riad.
Beautiful Riad in the heart of the Medina. The hosts were wonderful, and our accommodations in a three bedroom apartment were spacious. The hosts were helpful in orienting us to Meknes. Because of the time of year, we were not able to enjoy the pools, but they looked beautiful. We also appreciated the buffet style breakfast.
I was very pleasantly surprised by how comfortable I was at the hotel. The bed was perfect, everything was spotlessly clean, everything worked well (including the hot water, often elusive in Morocco). It was a restful place to end long days of exploration.
The manager is extremely welcoming and nice. he made sure we had everything we needed and even moved us to better rooms to give us more space. highly recommend this gem in Meknes Medina. The restaurant they suggested for dinner was also very good.
This was the largest room I have stayed in as a solo traveller in Morocco.
The building itself was large, and the lobby and rooftop terrace were also spacious.
Positioning of the hotel is really good. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, convenient stores, bus stops and almost everything that a traveler needs.
