A pension close (very close) to the ski slope. Excellent host, who drove me to the slope very day. Even tho you could walk it. Basic, but everything needed for a few days of skiing. An ofuro meant an achey body was ready for the next day.

We went specifically in winter to ski.

We went specifically in winter to ski. Getting there from Tokyo was easy by fast train, and connecting by shuttle bus to the Prince Ski Resort at Shizukuishi was seamless and easy. Note for international travellers there is no ATM machine at the station for international cards. Best to bring some Yen with you.
