This is a stunning property - the rooms are simple and refined, and the setting is very serene. We had a beautiful view of the water and the town, and the breakfasts were elevated and delicious in all respects. Location is great both for walks up to Senkoji Temple and park, as well as down into Onomichi. If we hadn't stayed here we also might not have encountered the little cafes and bakeries tucked away in the hills. That said, getting to LOG requires a fairly steep climb up a series of stairs/inclines, and you will find it hard to bring rolling luggage (which we did not do based on other reviews). Most decently fit people will find it doable but it may not be for everyone.

Quaint little town - lots of small, independent shops. Feels like you are stepping back in time. Everyone we met was very friendly. Perfect base for starting the Shimanino cycle ride across nearby islands. Good bike hire at docks.

Onomichi is easily one of the best places I've ever been to. There is so much beautiful scenery and so many hidden gems to enjoy. The people are marvelous and the food is amazing. And of course the great many cats to be seen make for a truly magical experience

My favourite place is the observation deck on the top of the mountain, which has a great view. You can take beautiful pictures of this city. For food, Onomichi Ramen is fatty for me, but there are other restaurants in city which have their own specialties. A city walk is recommended, since there are a lot of temples on the mountain, and you need to get there on foot, and explore their beauty. I will prepare a better shoes for the next trip and bring less item with me next time, because the tour on in the city requires a lot of physical strength.

For many Onomichi is the start of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route, but Onomichi has enough attractions that it is worth staying at least one day to look around. The Temple Walk is worth viewing the 25 temples along the route and the view from the top is great, and Cat Alley is great fun. A walk along the pier and having a snack or meal at one of the restaurants there is pleasant.

Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe.
Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe. Its the start, or end, of the Shimanami Kaido and attracts many people keen to do this cycling route. The town has a nice atmosphere as the people are friendly, helpful and accommodating. If I was keen I'd stay an extra day amd do the temple walking route as it seemed nice and went into the hills above town. Local ramen was demand served by super friendly hosts in the restaurants.

If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive...
If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive early in Onomichi, since you are able to visit the main attractions, being Senkou-ji and the old temple course, in a few hours. After this you should be able to start cycling the Shimanami Kaidou.
It is a steep walk up from the station but the view is wonderful. It’s only c.1,000 JPY for a taxi if you don’t want to walk. You’ll be up here anyway to see Senkoji etc.
Even better were the staff who were incredibly helpful and friendly.
We stayed here 2 nights and then spent 2 days doing the Shimanami Kaido. We liked the hotel so much we then returned to this hotel for a final night in Onomichi after the cycling.
We’ve now spent 8 weeks in Japan across 3 trips and Onomichi is arguably our favourite town / city.
This hotel has a great location close to Onomichi Station, it's an excellent place to stay while cycling the Shimanami Kaido. The room is very clean and spacious! The staff could speak with basic English, which was very helpful. This hotel is close to dining and shopping and it is on the Onomichi waterfront. There are bicycle rental services nearby, I recommend using one of the nearby ferry terminals to transfer to Mukaishima Island where you can then start to cycle along the Shimanami Kaido.
Location was close to the train station, waterfront and restaurants. The room was spacious with the couch transitioning to a bed for a third person. It had everything to look for in a modern hotel room including a washing machine. The bathroom had all the necessities. A shirt Walk about 3 minutes to the bicycle rental shop.
We loved everything about our stay here. The staff in particular were incredible. Our room had an issue with the temperature control and the staff worked swiftly to fix it. The room was comfortable and clean, the breakfasts and dinners were delicious, and the location is ideal. I can't recommend Hotel Beacon Onomichi enough!!
This was probably one of my favorite places to stay in Japan for solo travelling.
Everyone was so nice and since I stayed for quite a few nights I got to talk and get to know the different staff and people staying there. I hope I get to go again, Onomichi was really fun to visit and my stay here only made it better!
We liked everything! One of the best decisions we made to stay overnight at the Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama. The staff was fantastic and went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. We were also pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the dinner and breakfast which were included with our booking.
The cafe and the accommodation have a unique design and vibe. The tatami room we stayed in was super spacious with view into a Japanese garden. Optional breakfast costs 400¥ and is more than enough, though their western style option was not available at the time of our stay.
One of the most stunning views I ever had in a hotel room. Waking up with this amazing landscape at your feet was truly breath taking and worth every penny. Staff was very nice and helpful, breakfast(tradition japanese) also was very good and price-worthy.
The location is superb for cycling if you want to do the Shiminami Kaido, it's also close to town for sightseeing and food.
The hotel itself has a nice bike shop, cafe and shop full of local goodies that are good for souvenirs.
Isao and Elena are wonderful! Fantastic, kind hosts, and a beautiful traditional house with huge guest room (beds as well as futons). Thank you so much for sharing your home. The location is right off Onomichi's main arcade.
Very quaint and cosy little place. Very helpful at my start of the Shimanami Kaido cycle and first trip to Japan. Very well placed for the temples, shopping and food streets in Onomichi. Thanks for hanging on to my bag!
Clean room with coisy touches, good bed, helpfull people, hygienic shared bathroom and toilet. Located next to the Onomichi ferry line.
The restaurant on the first floor closes on time to enjoy a good nightrest
Hotel was new in April 2021, the staff is amazing. They are courteous and bend over backwards to help with any problem. They were very supportive and accommodating. The kitchen staff equally amazing.
The Onomichi View Hotel Seizan was a great location to stay before and after biking the Shimanami Kaido. The hotel owners were extremely nice and accommodating and we loved the view from our room.
Comfortable traditional Japanese home. Great location close to ferry and the famous Shimanami Kaido. Would definitely come back here if I have the pleasure of visiting Onomichi again.
Everything.
We got stuck one more day in the area and they offered to let us stay in the restaurant to wait for our next hotel's check -in .
Coffee is also very good
