Matsue Plaza Hotel, hotel in Matsue

Only a 2-minute walk from JR Matsue Train Station, Matsue Plaza Hotel offers simple rooms with a flat-screen TV. Free Wi-Fi is available at the lobby and massages can be requested for an extra cost.

The location is just right in front of the JR Matsue Station, so it's very convinient to catch up with your schedule for train or bus. For the price we paid, it was pretty much average and might be a very good choice for solo travellers. The room didn't smell like cigarettes, so it was a pleasant stay.

Our stay was brief - only two full days - but in addition to its castle and historic district made for walking, Matsue is a good jumping off point for day trips to Izumo Taisha shrine, the Adachi Art Museum and the garden at Yushien. One evening we had an enjoyable meal at a local "okonomiyaki" restaurant on the quiet street behind the hotel. The 88-year old proprietress was energetic, fun to speak with, and recommended a very tasty locally-brewed sake.

Matsue Castle and the surrounding castle complex are incredible. It’s a far more authentic experience of feudal era Japanese castles than the remodeled, refurbished, and in many ways entirely rebuilt castles of Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima, to name a few.

It's a wonderful and charming city! The art museums, castle/historical sites, and natural scenery are great. We had a lovely time just walking around the side streets and along the river. A hidden gem of Japan for sure!

Matsue castle is the best to recommend to you, to see from the outside and inside of old wooden architecture. I also recommend to visit an old great Izumo-taisha shrine by train from Matsue to Isumo-shi and bus from that station.

Matsue is a nice little city with a few interesting places to see (such as the castle). Its public transportation does leave a bit to be desired in terms of frequency, but, on the other hand, there are conveniences like a bus from Matsue station to Hiroshima that runs at thirty minute intervals. It is a bit far from more prominent locations nearby, though, which made scarce public transit a bit bothersome.

This was a luxurious treat and we all enjoyed it from the welcome by the general manager, the hot spring bath, the food, the room. One of our group had a massage which was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was an amazing buffet of Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel provided transport by shuttle bus to and from the hotel. Communications via booking.com worked well.

Everything you need for a capsule hotel including a separate storage room for all your bags. Everything is secured behind your own personal key card, so security of my stuff always felt nice. The staff made your bed every morning and resupplied towels and pajamas. The bathrooms/showers were excellent. The whole place was generally very clean as well.

Everything - the location, the spacious and welcoming interior, the massive rooms and relaxing onsen. The staff were incredibly helpful - assisted me with so many travel questions, above and beyond what was actually about the hotel. The breakfasts were amazing and I loved the late night ramen dinners.

I think it was the best hotel during our three week trip to Japan. Modern, comfortable rooms, very spacious as for Japaness standards. The staff was nice and helpful. Located near the railway station, not far from some nice diners and a convenience store, about half an hour walk from Matsue Castle.
