Breakfast was served in the large restaurant, and the quality was superb with the staff being very attentive and nice. Loved the Japanese selection! Room was nice and large, and very clean. Two choices of private onsen! We managed to enjoy both of them. In case you're hungry from all the onsen, they also provide ramen, drinks and beer for supper for free!

The meals were exquisite. Whether raining or sunny, the riverside dining was a beautiful experience. We appreciated that there were staff who could speak English and they helped us book an activity in Otsuki as well. We were also touched by Mr Yamada (the owner) who helped us take our luggage to the car in the rain and brought us umbrellas. So friendly and kind!

There is a more to explore here than we realized. Apart from hiking up hills for great views, we did not budget enough time for more sight-seeing. We had wanted to visit a wasabi farm but wound up at a wasabi market which was really cool with lots of wasabi based products - that was an experience in itself. Probably best explored by car.

It was a lovely small town, a welcome change from busy cities crowded with tourists. Very relaxing, beautiful hot springs in the middle of town, a charming temple and shrine surrounded by huge cedar trees. We stayed twi nights and really enjoyed it. From Shuzenji station you can take bus to a viewing area where if the weather conditions are right you can view Mt Fuji.

A car or bike is really essential to get around, and see the the sights, as buses may only run a few times each day.
Doi Gold Mine is an excellent working museum, lots to see and touch, even handle the pure gold ingots weighing 12.5kg. You can even do some gold panning. 400 metres of caves have been prepared as an example of the old hand-dug mines, 30 cm per day.
Mihama beach is great for families, sheltered, with good facilities, and the nearby Heda museum documenting Japan-Russian relations.
Lots of small coastal towns, with some places to stay, though many restaurants close early, and there are very few convenience stores, meaning you need to stock up and plan your trip and meals.
Food is mainly sea food, izakayas, the odd Italian and Chinese restaurant, and some tea/ coffee shops. Not really a culinary hot spot. Beach restaurants serve ramen, hot dogs, yakisoba, and other fast foods.
Quite a few abandoned places, relics of the bubble era.

public transport is very difficult, expensive and quite rare, make sure to check timetables (all in japanese by the way) because you can end up waiting hours for the next bus. But very beautiful and many many things to see so leave a lot of time and maybe rent a car if you can

Good parts:
The seafood is fantastic.
Bad parts:
The Toi sakura is a little disappointing for the volume is far from enough. And the traffic is not so convenient considering most buses only come once an hour.
5-star experience with excellent food, amazing environment and impeccable service. The hotel offered complimentary pick up from the train station. They also kindly catered to my vegetarian request for dinner and breakfast. The 'room' is so spacious that it's basically a house. All amenities are provided and we particularly love the garden view. All the staff are very kind and attentive. We have no problem with communication with their translation app. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay.
If you are planning to explore this part of Izu - it would be helpful to have your own car to get around as the resort is about 20 minutes outside of town. That being said, there is a regular shuttle bus service from the resort to the Shuzenji train station on the hour. Our room was simply wonderful and above our expectations and having our own private outdoor bath - which we finally saw Mt Fuji at sunset - was simply next level! Breakfast was a buffet and highly recommend!
the garden is really beautiful, could be seen from lobby, cafe , restaurant, room and Olsen.
staff very friendly.
great breakfast and dinner, contents different every day during our stay.
hotel that many novelties stayed, also place for TV dramas.
easy walking distance to attractions.
free drinks cafe.
lucky to meet the 2nd generation owner, took photos together, he still takes care of the garden, and I could see he enjoy it!
The buffet breakfast was really good. I loved how there were so many different private onsen and that there weren't any lineups. There is a health room with massage chairs and foot massager and some health measures that was nice. I was surprise there were so much kids entertainment there as well. The location was close to the near by attractions. There was free parking as well. Overall it was a great experience
The hostel is great, they had all the facilities available and the private room we stayed at was just what we needed.
Shuzenji Onsen is a tiny town but really lovely, I enjoyed exploring the Izu peninsula as well as the neighbouring rice fields and hills.
Jamie was super helpful and friendly and made our journey easy with all the tips.
If you're going to Shuzenji Onsen I recommend this accommodation.
An authentic traditional ryokan, set in the rolling Izu countryside by the side of a rushing river. Quaint and personable, the kind staff make things easy for non-Japanese to navigate and enjoy, from yukata to outdoor baths. Walks in the nearby hills with stunning views of Fuji. Excellent, substantial seasonal cuisine served on the deck over the river…idyllic.
This place is just beautiful. Its a hidden gem of Japanese countryside living with a beautiful house, pristine nature and river flowing around, Japanese aesthetic designs in the house and amazing host. The onsen is beautiful. The breakfast is made with love and boasts Japanese delicious flavors. Must visit and stay when in Izu.
The room offers the view of the suruga bay. Hotel has direct access to the beach. Their private onsen offers both indoor and outdoor area. Breakfast is buffet style and we quite like it because it allowed us to try lots of local cuisine in small quantities as we like.
The service was excellent, and the food was great.
I like the onsen. It’s private outdoor onsen is very comfortable. At night, you could see the stars while bathing.
The room is spacious. Great experience, the only disadvantage is it’s price…
The ryokan is a traditional building modernized for guests’ convenience. The design and attention to detail is beautiful. The meals were outstanding. The onsen and rotemburo were small but lovely and thankfully never crowded!
The rooms were super nice with great views, and the onsen was soo relaxing. All staff are super friendly and helped us explore the area around the hotel. The dinner & breakfast included were among the best meals I’ve had!
It's a great ryokan, be sure you're expecting tranditional Japanese. The outside onsen is great, and the food was very high quality. The staff were also accomodating since we were delayed for traffic.
