It was really close to the bus stop and Takegawara Onsen. We loved the Beppu cold noodles restaurant called "Rokusei", which again was close to the hostel. The area around the hostel had a retro atmosphere, but the hostel itself was stylishly built. The prices were reasonable.

Old, tired, mold in bathrooms, no English speaking staff, over priced, breakfast almost all Japanese food and quality wasn’t very good. Don’t stay at this place unless you pay approximately $50/night.

Beppu has a great vibe, especially the area around Beppu Station and the area near the "hells". The sight of water vapour rising between all the buildings is truly something. But aside from the hells and the hot springs there is not that much more to do in the city itself. So 2-3 days should definetely be enough for people who have a limited amount of time in Japan. The city of Yufu one hour busride from Beppu and certainly worth a visit. There are a couple of other great places in Oita Prefecture worth visiting but those are a little bit hard to access without a car.

Beppu is one of the best cities I visited, it is a city is in the middle of sea and mountain. There is a lot of Onsen where you can be easy to find around the city, Beppu is called " City of Onsen".
You can relax and release any daily tired at the onsen bath (especially if you bath onsen pool outside)
Furthermore, you can go to viewpoint to see the Beppu city and mountain view.
It is a good memory to visit there.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas.
We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!
This was probably the best place we stayed in Japan. We booked the room with the private onsen that looked out onto the ocean, it was absolutely stunning. The traditional breakfast was so beatiful, very different to our usual breakfast but nonetheless delicious, you have to try it at least once and i'm glad we did. The staff were very helpful with looking after our bags before we checked in. We smashed all the Jigoku (hells) in the afternoon and had a blast. Our only regret is not staying in beppu longer.
A nice hotel just 10 minutes from the Beppu Train Station. (Exitcon the east side (higasi) and follow the main road straight ahead to the "T" intersection. Turn left and the red brick hotel is on the right). The hotel is relatively modern and very clean. Our room was reasonably sized. The onsen is split between men and women, with a warmer tub inside and hotter outside. The Japanese breakfast buffet had many, good selections. There is a shopping area close by with many restaurant options.
The hotel was like a calm oasis amongst the business of beppu. The space was minimalist and aesthatically pleasing adding to the ambiance. The experience is what I can only describe as very Japanese. I now what to redesign my bedroom at ho e. The location was perfect. Even though we had a car it was located within walking distance from at least 3 of the hells and about 10 min to a variety of eateries. Really easy check in and out. Free parking
Very close to the train and bus station, just 5 minutes walking. Very nice onsen, with sauna, external bath and 3 pools at different temperatures. Room size in the average but quite well organized, which compensate for the usual small room size in Japan hotels. It is located in the central quarter where there are very good restaurants and the larger shopping gallery. One of the receptionist was able to make a good Italian expresso :)
I went to the hotel by a 10-minute walk from Beppu station. There is 24 hours convenient store just in front of the hotel. The hotel and the room were super clean, staff were so nice. Checkin/out process is quick. The location is very close to the bus center to other cities, but I did not use those bus, so I am not sure about it. The onsen was amazing! There is indoor and outdoor onsens on 2nd floor, both are just great.
At walkable distance to the train station, close to Beppu tower. The staff was really friendly and explained everything in English. A large kitchen area and common room. The Japanese style room was spacious and the tatami mats seemed to be really new. A large fridge and hot water kettle in the room. Shower and toilet (with toilet brush, which is rather rare in Japanese hotels) were in separated rooms.
I’ve stayed in countless hotels around Japan but Bettei Haruki is my favorite. The staff’s hospitality exceeded my expectations especially Yuki, he was a good host. The kaseki course dinner was such a good experience. I especially enjoyed the wagyu shabu shabu. The onsens were also amazing, I loved how they were private and the ambiance was just great! I will definitely come back!
Staff were there to greet us from the moment we stepped out of our car. The facility itself is modern, and beautifully situated above Beppu with incredible views. The Sora room was spacious, complete with a private onsen bath and modern furnishings. We had the steak dinner which was true culinary experience from beginning to end.
very beautiful, retro inn with a super nice owner. three great private baths with onsen water. very clean!
Beppu station is just around the corner.
very beautiful garden and spacious rooms. futons have thin mattresses so it’s not so painful to sleep on the floor. i will definitely stay there again!
Great hotel. The rooms are slightly larger than the average room in Beppu, for the price. The onsen ♨️♨️♨️ is awesome and that alone would be a great reason to stay at the Seawave. However, the breakfast 🧇 is also amazing, so there’s ANOTHER reason. I fully recommend Hotel 🏨 Seawave.
this Hotel is by the Beppu coast line, the big plus is that it has 3 private onsen which you can book in 1hr slot between 6am - 11am and 5pm-12midnight. 11-5pm the onsens are open to public but i didnt see anyone come in. We stayed in a japanese room/tatami mat but shared toilet.
The staff was so helpful in finding us a private onsen in Beppu. Location was great as it is near the train station.
It was my second time but still happy with the hotel. Breakfast was set but it was deliciously prepared.
Really Love this place. Comfortable room with private onsen and very helpful staff. Free car parking as requested. Location is great, located near various Jigoku within walking distance. Nice place to stay in Beppu.
The hotel is new and very well equipped. The 7 private onsen is the best facility offered for free at the hotel. It’s almost like a cross over between a western hotel and a traditional Japanese onsen ryokan.
Excellent location just outside Beppu station. Very friendly staff. Welcome drinks, buffet breakfast and in-house onsen. What more can you ask?? Definitely the best hotel on our trip in Japan.
Close to bus stop, not far away from station. Very close to beppu tower and sea. There is shopping mall across the street. Nice japanese bath and private onsen.
