La Macchia, hotel in Spoleto

Hotel La Macchia is surrounded by nature and features a garden with swimming pool, all just 1.9 mi from the center of Spoleto. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.

This is a lovely place with wonderful and attentive staff who go out of their way to meet every need. It has been in the same family for forty years and their dedication really shows. We loved the location — while Spoleto is full of things to do and see, try to make time to spend an afternoon sitting by the pool looking up into the olive grove (where you might catch a glimpse of the donkey!) It is so peaceful and very walkable 1.5 miles to the train station (although I would not walk in the dark because the last part does not have sidewalks). During our stay, we were the only English-speaking guests but the menus were in English and Roberta is fluent in English (and kind despite our terrible attempts at Italian). Each morning there is a bountiful and free breakfast, complete with meats, cheese, yogurt and a totally-worth-the-calories HOMEMADE cake. Also any kind of coffee drink made to order. We also thought the restaurant for dinner was very good and extremely reasonably priced. Our room had AC and was VERY clean. I would say this was an exceptional value — 5 nights plus 5 breakfasts and three dinners cost only 641 euros. We found La Macchia a good base for exploring Spoleto and the following towns.

Beautiful old hilltop town with so much to see.

Beautiful old hilltop town with so much to see. There is the Rocca Castle at the top of the town well worth the visit with spectacular views. The Duomo (Cathedral) in Piazza del Duomo, beautiful ceiling paintings. Lots of old narrow streets and lovely market squares, lots of places to stop for a coffee, glass of wine, lunch. Could spend alot longer here than we did. It's very hilly but there is an amazing underground moving escalator system that you can hop on to make it easier to get up those hills! On my previous visit to Spoleto, I stayed at Hotel Clitunno which I also highly recommend.

Spoleto is one of Italy's most pictures and peaceful towns.

Spoleto is one of Italy's most pictures and peaceful towns. Very relaxed atmosphere with lots of beautiful restaurants and eateries. The old Roman structures were not crowded and easy to access on foot. Walking around Spoleto was easy and very safe both by day and night. Lots of old Roman ruins and artists works in galleries dotted around the town. A perfect break from the congestion of the big cities. Spoleto will not disappoint. Hotel Duci was in a perfect location with good parking

The view at the top of the mountain using the tramway was exquisite and seeing the bridge and fort....Loved the Duomo beautiful beyond..the old streets...not many tourists...the streets so interesting. It was easy to get around..loved the piazza below our accommodation. Our accommodations were beyond my expectation. The wrap around terrazzo was such a bonus and a special way to end our trip. The old very old church just outside added to the beauty. and the tramway a walk away, The views from our terrazzo was spectacular!.

Spoleto is a city dating back thousands of years, where monuments, fortresses and wonderful awe inspiring churches exist. A modern underground walking/moving escalators and elevators assist young and old alike to move around this wonderful ancient city. There are numerous shops, boutiques, indoor/outdoor restaurants and bars to serve the public. Most important are the friendly people of Spoleto. A must see destination for all.

A really interesting town which is very easy to navigate with underground walkways and escalators. Easy access and easy parking, we wished we could have stayed for more than one night. A lovely Duomo overlooked by hilltop castle from which there is an excellent view.

We looked for a place to stay near the Marmore Falls and lucked out on this hotel with its great views and location in the heart of Spoleto. We arrived in the evening and had time to walk around this enchanting medieval village and visit the castle museum the next morning before driving to the waterfall. Regarding the Marmore Falls, if you cannot find parking in the main area or the ticket lines are long, carry on down the main road for 5 minutes and there is a back entrance to the park and a restaurant with parking...

Located down in the lower part of the charming old town of Spoleto. It is near plenty of bars, restaurants and shops, which are also quite lively on a weekend. The sofa bed was extremely comfortable in the lounge area, and apartment was comfortable. The main part of the old town is a easy walk up the hill and steps into the main street, where there are more restaurants and plenty of sightseeing opportunities. To access La Rocca there is a short walk to the lift to take you to the top.

Nazaro is the best host you could want. I got the warmest welcome. The room was nice, everything was very clean, I loved the pillows (first time this week I didn’t wake up with pain in my neck from all the hard pillows in Italy). There is a common area with a fireplace, very cosy. Nazaro arranged food from Rosa for me and 2 other guests, which was delicious. The breakfast was also great; croissants, ricotta, primo sale, apricot pie, bread, olive oil; everything homemade and delicious.

Everything about this property was fabulous. Situated outside of Spoleto, this is a reception place as well as hotel. It has a wonderful restaurant with first class food, amazing pool and farm animals if you have children. The room was modern as was the whole property. The shower recess was a little small for my husband but adequate for me. The whole property is very clean with lovely gardens and very large car park. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it.

Lyuba's place is so nice! Very centrally located, beautifully decorated, nice furnishings. The apartment is very comfortable and Lyuba helped organize an extra pull out bed, probably one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The apartment was very clean and bright and the breakfast items were very tasty! I would definitely recommend and I will certainly visit again! Lots of cycling options nearby which we really enjoyed.

Beautiful grounds, large spacious rooms, excellent restaurant and great value. The Borgo has a long history and there is a simple, easygoing charm and understated style to all the rooms and outdoor spaces. There are lots of places inside and out where one can relax. It would make a good base for day trips in Umbria. The restaurant has many choices and even attracts outside visitors.

Comfortable… Warm people… Good location out of the busy downtown area but within 10 minutes. Great combination of beautiful countryside and a great base for seeing many of the towns in Umbria. The on-site restaurant was a plus for a comfortable breakfast and occasional dinner. The patio was a great place to take this in with a view of the valley before you.

This is a very pleasant hotel. It gives you a good feeling for the town of Spoleto. It's near the entrance to the moving walkways that can take you up to the higher regions of Spoleto. The staff at the hotel was very helpful, sending us one night to a restaurant that was among the very best we encountered on our vacation.
