Palau is the perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Costa Smeralda. Its not too large and has a very friendly athmosphere.
There is a beautiful beach really close to the apartment and there are so many great restaurants, bars, coffee shops and a lovely Gelato shop all near the marina.
There is a ferry that goes back and forth all day to Maddelena Island which is beautiful. You can either go on foot or take the car.
We travelled all along the coast and found numerous wonderful beaches and stunning marinas.
We would definitely stay there again

Nice area around the harbour.
Nice area around the harbour. A number of restaurants that are perfect for 3-4 days. Plenty of opportunities to go on a sailing trip to La madalane and the other lovely islands around Palau. You just have to try it. Sailing trips can be made in many price classes.

I definitely recommend going on a boat trip, beautiful beaches that you will only see when you travel by boat. I would recommend taking a ferry to the island of La Maddalena, renting a scooter or car and crossing this small but beautiful island.

Palau is the nearest seaside town from the ferry landing...
Palau is the nearest seaside town from the ferry landing between Corsica in France and Sardinia in Italy. Hotels need to be booked well in advance, end September is a good time to visit. The nearby Islands of Madalena, Caprera and the other islands are a bonus. Costa Smeralda is within easy driving distance from Palau. Mind the restaurants they can be pricey.
The apartment is in a delightful area of a small, clean, walkable friendly town. If you visit Sardinia, this is a fabulous place to stay. It’s close to Arzachena where there are many nuraghes and also the Madalena islands and Garibaldi museum. Our host recommended a restaurant for authentic Sardinian food. It was extremely high quality and not very expensive. Parking was easy, everything worked, and it was spotlessly clean. Check in and out both very simple.
Amazing view from the room!!! The balcony was big and allowed us to put the drying rack out for our wet clothes from the island tours. The breakfast at the hotel was outstanding with lots of options of food including fruit, croissants, toast, frittata, meats, juices, cappuccino, and yogurt. The front desk was very helpful and we really enjoyed the stay there.
Beautiful house with the best possible view. It’s fully equipped and really spacious. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Beate, our host, was incredibly helpful and kind. The town of Palau is conveniently located on the Sardinian coast - there are hundreds of beaches to explore nearby and lots of islands to which you can get from the town’s ferry port.
Very quiet room, which was perfect as at the hotels at the main street you hear the garbage disposal cars all during the night. This hotel you can only reach by foot but it is very central, right off the main shopping street. Perfect location, will book again 100% if I come back. Much better than a hotel. Sweet host, lots of free amenities!
The location was great, even though it was up a steep hill, but the views of the port and the sea from the lobby were worth it.
The staff were friendly and accommodating, gave us tips see some Islands.
Rooms were cleaned daily.
Breakfast with a view on the port. Common area with the same view.
The bathroom was big.
Perfect localization, in the harbor, 100m from ferry to Maddalena Islands (don't worry, you can't hear anything). Beautiful view on marina from window/balcony.
Marcello was very helpful.
Due to winter season breakfast was in the nearby cafeteria. Good, as everything connected with that stay.
Mattia and his mother are very friendly, easy to communicate with them, and ready to give the best tips for a memorable stay in Palau. The room is clean, well equipment, and looks exactly like in the picture. The bed is very comfortable. I liked the small balcony from where the sea is visible.
This apartment was the best we found in Sardinia, in terms of quality and price. all very nice and clean, the size allows you to stay for several weeks, and there is everything you need without paying extra. the apartment has a small outdoor patio for dining,
The hotel has a lot of potential. Architecturally it is lovely mimicking the Sardinian towns/homes. It is very close to the beach (7 min walk) and close to the town. The staff was super friendly and kind. The greenery and location was just great.
The location is fantastic - just a stone throw away from everything but tucked away. My room was clean, comfortable and if you can get a room with a view I would recommend it. Seeing Palau from the balcony was fantastic especially at sunset.
Beautiful peaceful setting in the countryside. Stefano and Anna were the best hosts, sharing information about themselves and their home and Sardinia. Super clean, comfortable rooms. And the surrounding gardens are lovely. Highly recommend.
location, proximity to the beaches (our favourite one was Palau Vecchio, La Sciumara is too windy)
very kind host
spacious kitchen with all the amenities (microwave included)
beach toys and a bottle of Cannonau included - loved it
The house is just amazing! Well located with a stanning view to madalena island and the Caprera. Well decorated and with a kitchen with all the facilities to prepare meals.
The host was also very kind!
Highly recommend!
it was on a hill which provided a great view of the Palau Harbor and the Islands. The facilities inside were new and modern. The decor was attractive with a cute beach theme.
reception people were very kind. the room is large with a small patio. the whole hotel complex is big with lots of green areas. the parking was just be behind our building.
