Lombardy’s Best Kept Secret
Affluent Brescia is an industrial hub whose Roman and medieval monuments are relatively undiscovered. Its strategic location in the foothills of the Alps and midway between Lake Garda and Lake Iseo was coveted by invaders, and during efforts to ward off the Austrians it earned the nickname of the Lioness of Italy.
Brescia’s oldest landmarks are the Capitolium, overlooking the former Forum, and the Roman theatre remains. Artefacts found on both sites are displayed in the city museum in St Julia’s Monastery alongside remains of 2 Roman houses with their original mosaics, murals and underfloor heating.
The Broletto was the medieval town hall and it shares a large, cobbled square with the round Old Cathedral (or Rotonda) which is partly below current street level. Between them is the New Cathedral, begun in the 17th century. Piazza della Loggia is dominated by the Loggia itself and at the opposite end is a porticoed walkway housing shops and cafes.
Overlooking this from a hill is Brescia Castle whose ramparts offer views towards the lush Franciacorta wine-growing region. To the east is Sant'Eufemia della Fonte Monastery, home of the Mille Miglia Museum commemorating the iconic motorsport race which started here.
Booking.com’s accommodation options include luxury hotels, cheap apartments by the train station and B&Bs near Brescia Airport.

Brescia is a magnificent city -- very walkable through the historic centre and UNESCO world heritage site, fabulous architecture -- from Roman ruins through medieval to Renaissance, 19th century and 20th century deco buildings. The main museum is outstanding, shopping areas under porticos are fabulous, and the centre is bustling with beautiful plazas and squares, and fabulous restaurants and bars. A unique experience is the elegant restaurant, Antico Beccaria.

Brescia is not a small town but like big other big cities in Italy it is not the same as in the past. It is calm although full of foreign people, has a beautiful ancient centre and cathedral and one can make a walk for 2-3 hours and one lunch or coffee. There is a faculty of economy of Brescia and so students and the city is not dead. As you know the students drive economy and keep economy live, so the town is better than cities like Trento, Parma, Genova, but less interesting than Verona, Pisa, Bologna.

Parco Archeologico di Brescia Romana had an impressive roman temple facade, frescoes, mosaics and marble floors, and the vast Museo di Santa Giulia housed some spectacular remains of roman villas. Well worth a visit. Views from the Castle were spectacular. Taking the train to Verona is also highly recommended (not on a Monday when THAT balcony and the amphitheatre were closed).

Brescia is an underrated city for sure.
Brescia is an underrated city for sure. However, there's a lot to see/visit here and a great place to explore the area (I easily took one day trips to Bergamo and Bologna, as well as Lake Garda).
The Santa Giulia museum is absolutely a-ma-zing.

Brescia itself is a super nice place.
Brescia itself is a super nice place. But what infected me chose it and accordingly recommend it - a great starting point for a trip. Direct train to Milan, direct train to Verona. By car, Lago di Garda is 30-40 minutes away.
ALDI market is right next door -- you can purchase fresh croissants and all you need for an Italian breakfast a few steps away from your rooms (you have an entire wing of the apartment).
The location is ONE block from the railroad we traveled on, and just across the street from ALL the bus lines, city and intercity --- but the window shutters keep the rooms QUIET.
The host was eager to provide Everything we needed for a perfect visit to Brescia and the Lake Garda region --- he made the visit an unexpected delight.
Beautiful hotel in a great location for exploring northern Italy. Lots of local amenities within walking distance including the metro. Free onsite parking for our rental car, the staff were always happy to help with every need or want we had, the pool was always manned, clean and available with sun loungers. The food was also great, friendly happy service. We cannot thank the staff enough for our week with you all at Double Tree, we will definitely return.
The room was very big, the AC was much needed and great with the temperatures outside, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was big and clean.
Valerio was a very nice guy who was very hospitable. He gave us nice Pizzeria recommendations and was always available to contact.
The location of the Hotel is perfect to visit Lago di Garda or Verona. We also had dinner in Brescia city centre, which is a very authentic italian city.
The hotel was located in very close walk distance of the station of Brescia and; only 150 meters of a walk so super handy.
A basic place; nothing too fancy: A bed, a TV, Bathroom, Shower, Airco, Closet for a nice price.
I guess you wont find anything better than this; this greatly situated for this price.
Also a fine breakfast included every morning; with a good selection of choices.
The hotel is in a stunning old building with a gorgeous court yard and even an old beautiful chapel on it's grounds. The rooms were large with AC and a sitting area and a big bathroom. The breakfast had lots of offerings from mueslli to bread and cakes and fruits and yogurt and cheese and hams. It is very centrally located and has it's own parking. I would definitely go back.
Very smart, spotlessly clean hotel. Rooms are compact but comfortable. Location ideal for my purpose - using the train to visit different places each day - but about 10 - 15 mins walk from old city centre. Staff very helpful - not least when I needed to get a taxi back to Malpensa airport because local trains were on strike! I thought overall hotel was very good value.
The B&B is a fully modernized hotel in an antique building - really beautiful. The room was very comfortable, clean bathroom with everything you need, breakfast was one of the best we had in Italy in Covid times. Definitely perfect place to stay in Brescia - which is absolutely worth visiting, by the way. I personally liked it more than Verona.
A basic hotel room very quiet and out of the city centre. The staff at reception were lovely and very helpful. Five minutes walk to the nearest Metro station which really made this place a winner for us. We were able to buy tickets at the station and were in town very quickly due to a frequent and modern train service. Good breakfast.
Staff was really nice and always ready to help for any questions we had.
Parking could be done in front of the hotel or at a special parking space (free of charge).
Room was clean and big enough for a 4 member family.
The hotel had several little touches to make your stay more comfortable. Plenty of free parking, lots of fluffy white towels, magnifying mirror to do your makeup in the bathroom, tasty breakfast and good coffee.
The staff were wonderful: professional and caring. Smiling! The cook is a wizard of fine dining, breakfast and lunch. Great location for exploring Brescia.
