The hotel was really nice, as well as the staff and we had an excellent dinner in the restaurant. It is also quite nicely located near the sea with a nice view. If you are going around the Snaefellsnes peninsula, it is a great place to stay.

Beautiful views of the sea, especially sunrise. Great mountain views. It was uncharacteristically cold and windy so no hiking but trails exist. Easy access to the national park with black beaches, lighthouses, lava tubes and volcano views. Nothing open in winter, you'll have to drive to Arnarstapi (5 minutes) or 30 min around the peninsula for any food or fuel.NeilUnited States - 10Scored 10

Great location to explore the peninsula and lots of walks from Hellnar along the coast. Eating options are quite limited but the food at our hotel was excellent so we were happy to eat there each night.

Dinner and breakfast both great. Also recommend the Frista Food Truck in nearby Arnarstapi for amazing fish and chips and quesadillas. Good recommendations from reception for spots to stop at on the drive back to Reykjavik, including seals on the rocks at Ytri Tunga. We had 2 rooms, our Room was not large, but spacious enough for a couple and our luggage. Very clean, Comfortable, a small window could be opened to allow air flow and cooling during sleep.
