I might have stayed another night or two. We didn't have a chance to explore very far, and I had enough shopping. Our hotel had room service for food which was wonderful.
We ate at a rooftop fish restaurant and it was very bland. I was hoping for spicy food! Breakfast at Joes Cafe was good. It seemed to be the hot spot for Westerners.

It’s better to do the monuments early in the morning and hire a guide who will ride with you to take you to all the monuments as it’s too hot in June. It will take around 3 hours or more.
If you have nice zoo in your city for crocodiles and alligators then avoid the crocodile park as it doesn’t have anything special. Rest there’s nothing else to do in Mahabalipuram. Food in restaurants like A2b n all depends upon how clean you would like your food to be, I found the restaurant extremely crowded and unhygienic.

Very easy to walk about to all the major sights.
Very easy to walk about to all the major sights. No need for rickshaws unless you find walking arduous. They are available.
Some of the Kashmiri and Ladakhi shop owners really pushy. Most good humoured and we all know it’s a haggling game and people need to make a living. At the end of the day ask yourself how much you really want something and when you’ll be back. Most of these chaps send money home to families and travellers money main source of income
Go to Akka Creations on 39-48 Othavadai Street. The most amazing textile creations and fixed prices as manufactured by group of 100 or so women just out of Mahabs. I bought lots there including a beautiful elephant cushion cover for 500 rupees. Everything really well made.
Must place for authentic and tasty food is Mamalla Bhavan near bus station. A local institution that will not disappoint and cheap.

All the sight seeing places are well maintained by ASI, if you are passing by the road then one must visit the place as it will take only 2/3 hours to visit the place and will enjoy the humid climate.
The staff was courteous, well behaved and helpful. The rooms were big with a big sit out and cleaned well. The bathroom was well maintained. They also have an access to the beach but one has to walk through a field for about 200m to reach the beach. But is accessible even at night. It is just around 1.5 km away from the tourist attractions and shopping area. For sight seeing autos are better than taking the car as they get out of traffic jams pretty easily. This hotel is right next to the auto stand.
"We were impressed by the hotel's amenities, staff professionalism, and high hygiene standards. The traditional welcome during check-in was a delightful experience that was cherished by everyone in our group.
The housekeeping staff at our location was exceptional. Her dedicated efforts in maintaining cleanliness left a lasting impression, and we were highly impressed. The well-appointed rooms and the elaborate breakfast menu further added to our impressive experience.""
I chose Daphne after reading reviews on Booking.com and like always it worked.
The property has great ambience, the statue of Lord Ganesha with a lamp burning in front of it, the trees, in the lobby everything created the correct atmosphere. The property is walking distance to the beach, shore temple.
Last but not the least, the hotel manager Parthi. He is a gem of a person and helpes all his guests. God bless him!!
Homely friendly hotel. Quite smooth reservation process, very friendly service at the desk, clean & large room for two.
We loved their private beach. very clean and quiet. loved overall experience there. Cheers guys.
Rooms are clean and good price.. Don't order any food if someone tells will give home food. Find better one outside.. I feel the quality and quantity price vise very bad in mahabalipuram..all overrated restaurants

Wonderful luxury hotel, beautiful pool, private beach, polite and attentive staff. Wanted to stay longer! High tea was a nice touch, and the staff thoughtfully decorated our room as it was our anniversary.
The place feels like an oasis in Mahabalipuram with lots of trees and a nice pool. It's very close to the beach and the shore temple. The room we stayed in had beautiful furniture. The staff is courteous.
