In the Rio Dulce river near a 16th century castle the Tortugal Boutique River Lodge peninsula is bathed by almost constant on shore breezes providing a cool and refreshing place.

- Food was delicious!
- Staff very helpful! They recommended El Boquerón to us which we hadn’t heard about and absolutely loved it. I left a pair of swimwear behind after checking out and they kindly sent it to Rio Dulce Travel office for me to collect.
- Location. There’s lots of great hotels/hostels/eco lodges along Rio Dulce, but Tortugal was perfect because there’s access to the main road where you can then go to the hot waterfall or Boquerón and also into Rio Dulce easily.
El Hotelito Perdido is a little jungle hideaway located in a middle of Rio Dulce National Park.

The Hotelito is a little paradise on earth. The bungalows, but also the simpler rooms are spacious, well ventilated and comfortable.
The food is delicious and has absolutely reasonable prices. The staff is amazing, they even organize the tours and shuttles you might need!
The common areas are huge, with a lot of hammocks to hang out after a swim in the river.
Good to know: The showers run with river water and are a bit salty - but that's not a problem!

We enjoyed being on the river and the free kayaks. Watching life on the river go on while lounging on the deck. The swimming pool was a good way of cooling off.
The food from the restaurant was always good and sometimes excellent.
The staff were all super friendly and were always on hand. The owner helped us booked tickets to Livingston.
Our room was clean and comfortable and we had space to unpack.

I really wanted to like Rio Dulce. It turned out to be only a hub for boat and bus travel for me. Having spent two months in Guatemala by the time I got there, I was not surprised by the poverty or conditions. That said, I didn’t find much other than the castle to be places I wanted to see more of. It was very hot and humid in early July.

Beautiful remote location with many jungle lodges (from super remote to more public) along the river. Great jungle hikes, caves, kayaking with plenty of nature and wildlife. Definitely a required stop when visiting Guatemala, will visit again!
Beautiful place on the river. The port staff were really helpful in ringing the hotel and the boat came immediately. Staff were really helpful in hiring us a boat for a full day on the river and organised it all.
The room was a great jungle lodge experience with extremely comfortable beds (best we've ever slept in) and very hot showers. Food was gorgeous from the restaurant and very reasonable. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Very welcoming for families. Great pontoon to swim off. Great library where we all restocked our reading material!
We are very satisfied about our stay:
- hotel boat picks you up from the shuttle stop (we arrived from Lanquin) and they bring you back at check-out
- friendly and efficient staff
- clean and cute cottage, good showers, comfortable beds
- good food and pricing at the restaurant
- we did 2 of the activities offered: rainforest path (perfect for a late afternoon sport/nature time) and the sunrise kayaking to see the monkeys. Both recommendable!
- relaxing pool area
- good cocktails
Hotel Casa Perico is a great place to relax. In the middle of nature, yet very comfortable. Friendly staff who prepare fine meals. The hotel is only accessible by boat. You can go to the Sundog restaurant in Rio Dulce. Tell the bar that you want to go to the hotel. Then a free shuttle will be organised. The boat trip takes 5-10 minutes.
There is free canoe rental, which I enjoyed very much.
Breakfast was delicious and prices were comparable to restaurants outside of hotel. Hotel also offered an hour or two (don't remember clearly) of free little foot paddling boats, which was fun to pass the time. The hotel is nice and secure as well with security outside of resort. Loved that they were pet friendly as well, so I got to bring my pup along!
This hotel is amazing. We stayed in a hut in the middle of the jungle. The hut itself was thoughtfully designed with rare tropical wood like mahogany. It was beautiful, comfortable, quiet and the surroundings were magical. Tim and his team are the most wonderful hosts. The food is healthy and delicious. This place is a hidden gem.
We got a room not facing the street (i.e. #3), and it was one of the best nights of sleep we had in 5 weeks in Guatemala. AC, wifi in the room, very comfortable bed and pillows (way above Guatemala standard) and a great shower. The cafe is also fantastic with delicious breakfast for Q20-Q30.
We had a very nice one night stay. Unfortunately we arrived late but the hotel still picked us from Rio Dulce. Free boat pickup. Shared bathroom was clean. Clean basic room with a fan. Free kayaks to use around. It’s a good place to relax. Delicious pancakes & fair prices. Helpful staff.
Atmospheric wooden hostel set deep in the mangroves. One can swim (no crocodiles) and rent kayaks. Good food (best nachos ever). They pick you up by boat from Rio Dulce town. They will organise a boat tour to Livingston from their dock at no extra cost.
The place is beautiful, facilities are clean and uniquely thought out. Food at the restaurant is good. They have a boat shuttle to take you to hotel for free. The place is environmentally conscious. Pool is great and there are monkeys around.
Great place to unwind for a few days, you are in middle of a lake with no roads! be prepared to stay at hotel a lot of the time, staff only speak Spanish but I liked this as I’m trying to learn Spanish (use it as an opportunity to learn)
Wonderful location! We enjoyed this uniquely located hotel with its minimalist accommodation
and back-to-nature feel. Loved the kayaking, paddle boarding, and the kind and helpful staff!
Food was delicious!
Very nice hotel! Across the bridge from Rio Dulce itsself, but everything is a short tuktuk ride or boatride away.
Perfect location and pool. Very nice cabins! Best we had in the whole of Guatemala.
Liesel was awesome and communicative. The food was outstanding (did a 4 course dinner with wine pairing), and the whole vibe of the hotel was relaxed and modern while still being an eco lodge.
I loved the location, staff, and facilities. The staff was beyond helpful, especially Rudy, and the scenery of the hotel was amazing! Food there was good, not great though.
Really friendly staff - especially Emmanuel who helped us organise our plans for Rio Dulce / Livingston. Nice new hotel, everything was clean room was spacious.
We stayed for 1 night to split the drive between Flores and Guatemala City. It was fine for that. Service was good. Extra large double bed was comfortable.
