Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it.
Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say is that it is hard to get away to visit other places without a car. There are some buses, to Pylos, Finicounta and Kalamata, but it was impossible to get a timetable. We kind of got round it by getting a taxi to Pylos initially, and the nice man at the bus office wrote down the times of buses between Pylos and Methoni, but we didn't travel around as much as we might have because it was so hard to get the bus times. There are very good local taxi services, but they are a bit pricey to do more than a couple of excursions (for us anyway - no disrespect at all to local taxi driver who were wonderful when we used them). Other than this it is really beautiful and absolutely fantastic food. The beach is lovely and great for swimming and snorkelling. The castle is amazing. Getting a boat to nearby Sapientza is recommended too, as is an excursion to Ancient Messini. The museum at the castle in Pylos is great.

Methoni has a good choice of restaurants, quite a few of which are located around the square which has a lovely atmosphere of an evening. There is plenty of free parking and the castle is worth visiting, especially for the views.
Methoni is a great place to relax and watch the boats or to sip a cocktail while looking at the milky way.

Methoni is a great village for a relaxing beach holiday. It suits families with young children ,couples and solo travellers who want a peaceful holiday. There are lots of traditional Greek restaurants none of the usual tourist fare, the food is amazing our favourite was Sapienza just off the coast road.
The beach is clean with plenty of sunbeds the sea is shallow and crystal clear..I would suggest use the sunbeds in front of the Methoni Beach Hotel.the beds are free you just need to purchase food or drinks. The food is excellent and everything is ordered and brought to your sun lounger. There are lots of friendly cats and some dogs who like following you around the village.
Visiting Methoni castle is a must,it is huge!! It only costs €3 per person the views are amazing with loads of wildflowers inside the ruins.I would be apprehensive though taking young children due to the open steep drops in some cases.
There are 3 gift/tourist shops in the village and two small mini markets. There are two amazing bakeries on the same road our favourite was Athanasiou Bakery a great selection of bread, pastries, cakes and handmade mini ice creams.
The Trojan horse bar makes great cocktails and the staff are helpful and friendly.A good place to try a few cocktails.
Overall visit Methoni and stay in the Achilles hotel. The village is great and easy to walk around for a peaceful beach holiday with none of the usual tourist stuff that can ruin a resort.

Methoni is a quiet unspoiled place, with all the pros and cons.
Restaurants are quite good, parking spaces are plenty and many places/beaches nearby to go to.
One huge disappointment is the main attraction: Methoni castle is one of the biggest and most important castles in the whole country but at night it is pitch-black ... zero effort was put in illumination, what a pity!
The complex is located in the middle of a very vivid and silent olive grove, 5'-10' away from Methoni, Finikouda and Pylos. The villas are brand new, comfortable, bright and clean, ideal for a family of 4 and a very large swimming pool exist in the middle of the place. The villas are fully equiped with kitchen devices.
Last but not least, Marios, the guy in charge, is an excellent facilitator providing info and solutions with a smile always.
Amazing view, newer property with modern amenities, excellent staff, and well appointed rooms.
The hotel is well situated, and appointed with European fixtures, bathroom etc. which is a huge plus, because Greek hotels tend to have hard beds and small bathrooms. Not here! all the latest in fixtures.
The staff is amazing. you do feel the Greek hospitality at its best.
I would highly recommend a stay at the hill!
Amazing, beautiful villa with
modern design and breathtaking pool. All you need is there. The view from the bedroom
and the sunset terrace on the Methoni bay are wonderful. Full
privacy garantueed due tot the smart implantation of the 3 villa’s. Fine restaurants are in walking distance. The service is great: the cleaning is impeccable, and the friendly host welcomes you and supports you in whatever you need!
Breakfast absolutely incredible. Charming tray loaded with delicious things hot bread and croissants yoghurt nuts etc. the ladies were incredibly friendly and charming. And the pool and surroundings sop peaceful very close to Methoni and lovely beaches but set in a calming and scented olive grove with a lovely garden. Utter bliss and a kitten in my bed one night. Perfection. Kim cobbold
We decided to take a last minute trip to Methoni before heading up to Pilos. Dimitri the owner was very pleasant and hospitable. He offered to take my girlfriend's bag up to our room. The hotel is walking distance to the Fortress and right next to the square where there's a few restaurants and breakfast places. The location was perfect for us as we arrived late from a long drive.
9/10 for value - had everything you could want for a great price. parking, walkable to walking street, restaurants, castle, beach and sunset view. view from patio, good beds, just 1 air conditioner but it was eventually able to cool both bedrooms. good laundry, shower, kitchen, living room, 2 bedrooms. recommended for stay in Methoni.
A family run hotel in the of the beautiful village of Methoni. Very clean and modern, serving a delicious Greek breakfast. The hosts are the nicest and kindest people you could hope for. And most importantly the shower is hot and powerful and the beds are really comfortable. Highly recommended.
We spent a beautiful time at Ulysses hotel. The owner reserved us one of the warmest welcome one can wish. A fabulous fruit juice as a starter. Breakfast was beyond all expectations, just wonderful at the shady terrace. The owner is one of the most friendly and helpful hosts we ever met.
The hotel is located perfectly. From there it is just a two minute walk to the beach and a five minute walk to the castle. Two small supermarkets are also just a five minute walk away. The owners are very friendly. When we asked for another, smaller pillow, they organised it quite fast.
This is a little gem of a hotel! Individual suites with full facilities and generous provisions: coffee eggs, bread, butter and fruit. It was super clean and very spacious and the owners could not have been nicer. We were gifted a bottle of their own olive oil.
Perfect spot to stay in Methoni- comfortable rooms, great location, and the breakfasts were amazing. Nikos was very helpful and welcoming. He gave us some great tips for things to see and do. We will definitely be back!
Very clean and well equipped villa was perfect for our stay. Service from Katerina was exceptional and we very much appreciated the treats she provided us as well! we will stay here again in our next visit to Methoni!
Aris hotel is well located in Methoni, very close from the fort and the beach.
The owners are very kind (even if they don't speak english, it's easy to communicate)
Rooms were confortable, air con ok
Rooms are really tidy and look like they have recently been renewed. We had a nice room with a view of the castle. The hotel is right on the beach with many restaurants at walking distance..
People who run the hotel and personel were super helpful, very polite and willing to fullfil our demands. Excellent site next to the beautiful Castle of Methoni and the center of the town
