We couldn't have been happier with our choice of a hotel! It's located a few kilometers outside of the center and the old town but this was only a positive thing for us - lying by the pool (a big and clean pool for that matter) it was actually calm and quiet with only some birdsong to be heard. The hotel also provided a free shuttle every half an hour to the center and back so the distance was not an issue whatsoever. The staff was a m a z i n g, I can't compliment them enough. It must've been the warmest welcome I've received at any hotel, in any country, and they kept being so genuinely kind and helpful for our whole stay. The restaurant upstairs offers you the best sunset view in town and we actually ended up having dinner there almost every night since the food was also great there. The breakfast buffet was so great as well, with a big variety of food and omelets made to order. If (and hopefully, when) I return to Chania, I will definitely stay at Royal Sun again.

Location perfect in the centre of the village and right on the beach. Staff were helpful and friendly
Great selection of food for breakfast as was the lunch and dinner. We like to eat out in local tavernas but the hotel did its best with variety.
Sea view room was great for view and the bed was very comfortable. I didn’t use air con as early in the season but also a ceiling fan. They have entertainment on an evening and our room was just above but luckily this finishes at 10.00pm
Kalami itself is such a small place that you could drive...
Kalami itself is such a small place that you could drive right through without even realising it (blink and you'd miss it!). However,it's an excellent place for a stop-over from Chania Airport, and the bigger picturesque village of Kalives with its numerous tavernas and beautiful sandy beach are only 5 minutes' drive away. We only stayed in Kalami for 2 nights, once at the beginning of our holiday before we drove to Eastern Crete, and once again on our way back, so we didn't really have time to explore. If there were any shops there, we didn't find them, just 2 tavernas. Kalami is set off the main National Highway and is on the busy main route into Kalives. Our accommodation,
'Olympic View' was quite high above the road so there was no noise from traffic and gave us a fantastic view across the bay.
