We were in Mestia at the end of the winter season (end of March). If you want to ski relaxed and without queues in the middle of the great scenery of the Caucasus: Tetnuldi (30 to 40 minutes by car from the hotel) is an absolute insider tip!!! A smaller ski area is only 5 minutes away. Modern chairlifts, slopes well prepared......breathtaking views. A real alternative for skiing to the crowded skiresorts in the Alps!

I was thinking Mestia was just gateway for Usyuguri Village, but the fact is not. It is nice and cozy town but very convenient as I could buy basic stuff at some shops and change money. Mestia is a very beuatiful and special place in Georgia.
Mestia is a very beuatiful and special place in Georgia. Here you can find wonderful mountains, interesting traditions and great food. To go here it is better to choose Summer or Winter season. Winter is good for skiing, Summer is good for trekking and hiking. When in Mestia do not miss the chance to go uphill to Ushguli. These villages are UNESCO heritage and it is necessary to see it at least once. However, be informed that the road to Ushguli is really dangerous because of the stone falls and it is better not to go there when there is a bad weather, especially during the rain.

We lived in a family with hundreds years history, they have own Svanetian towers !! Own church with amazingly saved pictures on the walls ( insane, never seen that before!) Water pressure in the shower the best in whole Georgia)) Host drived us to Mestia and back every day, as we had private tour and our guide stayed in center, but we wanted to live in Lilat Gueshouse. The kitchen is well stocked and clean. I did a load of laundry for free. I paid for the host for a taxi service to but not from Chalaadi Glacier. We enjoyed the place much more than crowded Mestia and there are many walks around. The road to the place is not entirely paved and requires careful driving. We drove with a private sedan and it was fine so no need for a 4x4 but it does take a bit of time. The owners were helpful and informative and put up a bonfire for us in the evening.
