Great location just under Penshaw Monument, in the middle of the countryside. Very good facilities in the property and very well laid out. Owner even set up a Xmas tree and lights for our stay - a lovely touch. We also made use of the cafe next door - they make an excellent cooked breakfast in the morning.

Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas.

Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas. Large free car park which was easy to manouvere. Hotel was lovely, rooms were large and well stocked with toileteries, hairdryer, iron on request which was brought swiftly to our room. The adjoining bar was well stocked with lots of different beers/lagers, wines etc. Food was available in either the bar or the Thai Resturant. Staff are very friendly very helpful, nothing was any trouble to them. Would not hesitate to return.

Set by the side of a busy country road in beautiful countryside close to the A1(M). Fabulous beer garden, plenty of parking and large restaurant. We stayed in a beautifully appointed room but unfortunately this was at the front of the hotel and the traffic was busy. To be fair, if we hadn't needed the window open so wide due to the warm evening then this would not have been a problem to us.

the hotel was ideally located for where my son and i were visiting and not far from the metro shopping centre. even though our room looked on to the A1 it was not that noisy. rooms were spotless and had tea and coffee facilities and also information book of local attractions near by which was very useful for us as visitors

I'm disabled and the Hotel catered very well for me. The whole area is a pleasure to drive around and the people are so friendly and helpful. We always ate in the Hotel, the food is SO good. The only thing to avoid is make sure your stay is long enough!

Now 53, I lived in Houghton le Spring for the first 22 years of my life, with many family and friends still living there. I can honestly say there is nothing for anyone in Houghton unless you are visiting friends or family. It's difficult to sum up a place in a few words, but with the single ATM in the town centre not working when we were there, most food outlets having a hand-scribbled note on the windows reading "Cash Only", and all closed shops on a night feeling the need to have steel shutters, sums it up for me. There are still lots of lovely people living in the town, but I really couldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't NEED to visit!

Houghton le Spring has good road links for visiting either Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle, good bus links as well. Various different restaurants to eat at, ranging from good old pub grub, Italians or Indians.

originally confused this hotel with another of the same name. What a fantastic bonus! The rooms are lovely, facilities fantastic, food is exceptional, nothing is too much trouble for Daryl and his staff and the locals are friendly & welcoming. The only bad thing i can say is that they're obviously too good because they're fully booked up on my next trip. Gutted!

Lovely clean rooms and comfortable beds. Lovely big fluffy white towels. We stayed in a family room for 3 nights. The staff are a credit to the hotel, so friendly and accommodating. The Thai curry was amazing and a lovely friendly bar atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel was lovely, large clean room. We ate lunch at the Thai restaurant and it was delicious! We booked for a concert at Sunderland and we shared a taxi with other residents but there is also a convenient bus stop right next to the hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Exceeded expectations. Staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast good. Room clean, spacious and comfortable. Slept well. Unexpectedly quiet, considering the hotel's location adjacent to a busy dual carriageway. Very conveniently located for Durham City and A1M Road.

Very welcoming staff in a lovely well kept hotel. We stayed a few miles from a wedding a ramside hall, drive is down the road and easily accessible. Breakfast included was really nice. The photos didn’t really do it justice, would stay again.

This is a very good hotel and superb value for money, way, way better than other travel chain type hotels that would be considered as there competitors. Very good Thai restaurant too which was a very pleasant surprise and delicious.
