Forton House Shepherd's Huts, hotel in Chard

Set in Chard, 27 km from Golden Cap, Forton House Shepherd's Huts offers accommodation with a hot tub. Situated 49 km from Sandy Park Rugby Stadium, the property features a garden.

We absolutely loved the location and the way each hut is set up with the hot tub, decking area with seating and fire pit. They have given privacy by putting up wooden fences and each area is a great size. The huts are well equipped, with a really comfy bed, woodburner, small kitchen and shower room. It even had a Dyson hairdryer. The views are just stunning and they provide endless wood and fire starters. The Woodfired hot tub was lovely and really did get very warm and was gorgeous for a morning wake up to watch the sun come up. The site was immaculate and the bins were close enough to make it convenient to dispose of rubbish. The owners are lovely and had a chat one day and despite other campers in camper and just across from us it still remained very peaceful on site. It’s a real gem and we can’t wait to come back

A small town, not many places to eat out...we ate where we stayed at The Bath House Hotel and restaurant - a Malaysian fusion restaurant, rather pricey but a nice meal. A good base to travel on from or go to places to visit - we had a day in Sidmouth from Chard , so an easy place to travel from!!

Very disappointed with Chard, a very sad town with little going for it. Expected a pleasant, country town but Chard certainly was not. Rough pubs, takeaways, boarded up premises & several locals who appeared to be under the influence. I would not recommend, avoid!!

Chard itself didn't seem to have lots to offer although the Wetherspoons was clean and always available. It is a good location and base for what we wanted, which was visiting East Devon, West Dorset and West Somerset. The weather was foul some days but we can't blame Chard for that!

Once arrived at the Haymaker, all the staff were very friendly and helpful with everything I asked. Room was very spacious, clean, fresh towels , tea, coffee, bottled water replaced every day. Breakfast was amazing, even had gluten free options. We ate there couple times, friends joined us one night and commented how good the food was. We're going back again soon

It was a very pleasant stay.

It was a very pleasant stay. Great location in the village of Chard. Great that they had there own parking. The room was adequate, nice and clean. Although it was a last minute trip so we got the last room. The shower was lovely and hot. Very quiet location. The breakfast was really good . Trudie, David and there lovely dog Chester, were all very friendly and gave us lots of advice on where we were visiting. I would definitely recommend and quite happy to stay there again.

Small and well located in the Somerset country side with easy links to the south coast, motorways and many other places in Somerset, Devon and Dorset. Chard has plenty of shopping facilities and places to eat and drink. The people are friendly, polite and helpful.

Fantastic setting behind beautiful old rectory. so tranquil and surrounded by fields, walks and wildlife, yet only 10 minutes to Chard. Comfortable, spacious rooms with everything I needed. Perfect garden and two new friends for my spaniel to play with and a lovely host who was attentive in all the right ways - thank you for the greenhouse nectarines and the outdoor seat cushions which just magically appeared! I loved every minute.

Everything! Lovely little hotel in the centre of Chard. Ensuite king-size double bedroom which was immaculate. Excellent breakfast. Small family run business. The owners are very welcoming and it was a joy to chat with them. They provided us with a lovely relaxed stay. As a small hotel (6 rooms), it provides a personal touch that you wouldn't get from a larger commercial hotel.

Nice hotel, but I know now that you really need a car as it's a bit out of the way. The evening meal I had on the 1st night was very good value for money, the portion was huge. The staff were helpful & friendly but a bit young & inexperienced at times. Being in the hospitality industry myself, I appreciate that that would improve given time.

Great location. Great staff. Great food at an excellent price. Wonderful hosts. All in all just a wonderful experience. Short walk into Chard in beautiful countryside. Bus stop outside the pub for Taunton or Chard. Will definitely return to investigate the walks in the countryside surrounding the property. A highly recommended property.

Quiet country setting, with a stream, and an old mill. Picturesque and relaxing. We opened our window to hear the birds chirping in the trees. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast delicious and our room was spacious. The hotel is set up to do receptions and special events.

The room was superb, immaculate and clean, the breakfast was fabulous as was the evening meal, a great choice of classic and Malaysian. The staff were so good and helpful. I rarely recommend a hotel as I’m afraid to disappoint as things change but this has a bit of class.

The decor is original and each room is named after a flower and decorated accordingly. The dinner menu included Japanese dishes as well as English, and these were beautifully cooked and presented. The breakfast was delicious. We felt very well cared for.
