This is a review of one of the pods NOT the hostel itself...
This is a review of one of the pods NOT the hostel itself which was closed during my visit. Acheninver is close to Achiltibuie about 30 miles north west of Ullapool. It's in a most beautiful location and is close to some of the most stunning scenery in the UK. Perfect for my requirement which was solitude, birdwatching and wildlife spotting. However, it is remote. You need to negotiate about 20 miles of single track road to get to the place so nipping into Ullapool for a loaf is not easy. There is a store in Achiltibuie but I was very organised and worked out what I needed for my stay and stocked up before I arrived and brought a lot of stuff with me from Tescos in Ullapool. Also the pods only have a microwave, so you need to work out what you can cook in a microwave when planning your food for the week. If the hostel is open you may have more options. When you get to the hostel you have to walk from your car down to the pod which is about 400m away. There's a wheelbarrow at the pod to help with the heavy stuff which is great but just don't leave something in your car which you need. I was delighted with the place and would go back in an instant, you just need to be prepared before you go.

Great location for walking and cycling.
Great location for walking and cycling. I was definitely glad I had taken the bike for the days when the weather wasn't great for hiking. When the weather was good though - you have beach walks right on your doorstep and the hills of Assynt and Coigach a short drive away.
