We did a tour to Utria National park. My expectation was entering the jungle with a nature guide to look for local animals. Instead we went on a beach tour. So be sure you explaine correctly what you expect to get the right tour.
The other morning we went alone on a little path behind the hotel and managed to see a group of monkeys. So there are wild animals around. For the locals they are just so normal, they don't mention them. Among the local birds are also eagles. Same thing, locals won't mention them as special, as the are regularly seen.

I really had a wonderful time at the pelican house hostel. The staff (owners and volunteers) are amazing! They help you with everything, organize tours and transport and are always up for a lovely conversation. The atmosphere at the hostel is super laid-back and familiar. The hostel has a kitchen and fridge for cooking meals and enough spaces to hang out. Despite the humidity, the sheets and pillows are dry and smell fresh. There is daily housekeeping to keep everything clean. The location is absolutely amazing (just look at the pictures). It really is a small paradise and I think my Chocó experience may have been the best during my 8 months of traveling.

Luisa and Lucas are excellent hosts, warm, and most hospitable. They were especially helpful in arranging tours and transportation, and sharing their knowledge of the community. The beds were comfy, all facilities were impeccably clean, towels and bed linens appeared new and washed without scented detergents, and there was water pressure that provided a refreshing shower. Accommodations are set back from the road in a lovely garden frequented by local birds and butterflies. The property is located a short walk from town, yet far enough away to remain quiet, and you can’t beat that it is across the street from the ocean.

Further down on the beach so it’s very quiet at night, lots of spaces to chill, volunteers and staff are very nice, one of the cleanest hostels I’ve stayed at despite being right on the beach. Seemingly employs lots of local staff/families which is cool to see in a town without a ton of other work opportunities. Food and smoothies that they sell are delicious and you get big portions, included breakfast is always bomb.

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! It's right by the bridge leading to the Utria National Park trail, which proved a real goldmine for me as a birdwatcher who generally prefers to go independently without paying money for tours. Lots of exotic birds and gigantic Morpho butterflies on that trail and tamarin monkeys, too! The hostel itself is of great value for the rooms and has cozy hammocks overlooking the tide flats and providing an incredible sunset view, as well. The fan is strong and there are mosquito nets as well. I should note that there weren't many mosquitoes.

The nature is gorgeous but unfortunately the human hand hasn't been the best there. There are not many restaurants you can choose from and at all of them you will always have the choice of the dishes of the day. Surprisingly the fish is never very delicioisly cooked even though is very fresh, the truth catch of the day. It's a very expensive destination since there is almost nothing you can do independenty besides going to the beach and surf. Even though the beach is very beautiful it's also not the best beach expererience for me since the sea is way too hot (over 30 degrees celsius) For whale watching, visit other beaches, and etc you often need to buy an organized tour or ask for a ride from a taxi (tuk tuk or moto). The tours are good but the whale watching is not the best. It's better to do it in bahia solano

We staid here for a week (in El Vale, in two different hostels next to each other). For me it was long. My boyfriend loved it.
It is very hot.
The tours where quite expensive (if your traveling for a longer period).
