Basecamp - Yala features mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Yala, 15 km from Situlpawwa. 22 km from Tissa Wewa and 47 km from Bundala Bird Sanctuary, the property provides a garden and a bar. The campground has family rooms. First ask yourself what is the reason you want to be here - if you are here for the nature alone, Nilantha is the best person you can stay with and who you SHOULD take as a guide with you to the safari. He has a degree in biology , fluent English and knows so much about the local fauna and flora so a full day safari doesn’t get boring (which I can imagine can if you only take a driver with you). He is a true believer in ecotourism and is giving back to local communities. If you are here for a fancy dinner and facilities, go somewhere else. This is a simple stay in the jungle. And one more thing to add - your guide is not responsible for how many animals you’ll see BUT we were lucky and he for sure knows some spots where they MIGHT appear. And last but not least- Nilantha is a great and nice person we had a chance to meet :)

So much birdlife in the area when you’re sitting and hanging out in the garden - it feels like you’re in in the jungle. Priyantha and his team went out of their way to look after us and create a beautiful environment for our short stay. The Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner were both delicious and ample sized!

Great accommodation and a beautiful garden were we had dinner every night next to the camp fire. The full day safari is a must! We saw so much wild life, including a leopard and a bear and at lunch time we had a perfect spot at the river for a picnic and a swim. The host, Marc, went above and beyond to give us the best experience in Yala. He is fun and very knowledgeable about literally every animal and bird in the park. The next day we did a half safari and for the afternoon Marc had organized a safari in Udawalale (with the elephants) with their female ranger Chathu. She is wonderful, fun and knowledgeable and we had such a great time. We will definitely come back next year!

Family tents are provided based on requirement. All tents are fitted with comfortable beds, mattresses and pillows. Free drinking water will be provided. All bathrooms are equipped with a Hot & Cold shower. Big Game made my stay incredibly unique. I love how close it is to Yala Safari Park, the ambience if staying in a tent, how peaceful it is to hear the nature’s singing. The generosity and kindness of the staff, Avinka was great on explaining and giving a night walk tour around the camp at night. The bbq dinner at the camp under the stars and moon was also a perfect experience. 🙏🏻 thank you.
