Grotta Barisano was the highlight of our short stay in Matera. It is a very authentic place, beautifully restored and furnished with taste. We also could not ask for a better host - Emanuele was amazing: from giving us a proper introduction to Sassi and the Grotta to offering us a bottle of wine and complimentary italian breakfast at the bar just in front of the grotto. I just followed the walk map and ended up not missing any important spots. These were not expected but did make a big difference. The property was beautiful and arranged for us. We had our own personal time and felt at home. Would strongly recommend this.

This apartment is the perfect place to stay in Castelmezzano. It is in the middle of the incredibly scenic town with a window facing the town church/square. The apartment is clean, cozy and recently renovated. A few months ago they added an A/C to accommodate hot summer days. In addition, there’s a great breakfast in their nearby bar/restaurant.

From the pottery to the tiles, from the dishes to the extra touches to make this space feel like home. There was a considerate variety of fresh fruit, small pastries and coffee available for our use. There was even milk and water in the fridge, cold and ready for use. Cozy, but not small. The view from the two front windows opened up to provide a street view on the edge of the Sassi. The exposed stone ceiling combines the age old architecture into the modern design. Truly a magical place!
