Hagia Sophia
In 537 AD, Hagia Sophia began life as a church, before becoming an Ottoman mosque in 1453. The largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years, this majestic building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Today, you can go inside and explore both the colossal structure as well as its museum.

Hagia Sophia itself is impressive, I certainly wouldn't recommend the so-called "museum," which is ridiculously overpriced and basically just a long, ridiculous video in a bunch of different rooms, played at the volume of a rock concert. Go watch a documentary. You'll learn a lot more.

They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan.
They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan. It has been a museum for almost 100 years, but now it is a mosque and you are not allowed to go and explore the place inside, but are confined to a small space at the ground floor of the building. Very, very sad!!

There are many many well dressed VERY friendly and helpful men willing to show you around, avoid them, do not talk to them! They are all trying to sell you something. They can get aggressive if you engage them and the try to leave, best to avoid them and keep walking.

Definitely gone down since it was turned back into a mosque from its museum status. You can't walk around snd see much of the things you were able to see before. The mosaics and freezes have been covered over again and the balconies are now out of bounds.

We had a nice tour but all of the religious items are covered. It use to be a museum but is now a mosque. However, there is a very beautiful mosque nearby, the blue Mosque, so would have been nice to see the Byzantine church in its glory. There is a great museum of Hagia Sophia that gives you information on the history and it's one of the most high tech museums I have encountered, highly recommend it.

Now that the Hagia Sofia has been designated as a mosque, entrance is free and the queues are horrendous. Try to get there before the crowds, even if it means missing breakfast - or join a reasonable-priced guided tour and skip queuing.

I spent 3 days in Istanbul, and I was lucky that I chose this hotel. First of all, because of the price, the second location of the hotel, not far from Hagia Sophia, the third because of the cleanliness of the hotel, thanks to the guys from the hotel, they are very responsive, always ready to help, in short, there is nothing to complain about.
The stay was amazing. Mr Kenan, Mr Selcuk and Mr Yavuz are true gentlemen, helped us a lot during the stay. Overall, the staff were friendly and ready to assist. Especially enjoyed the breakfast and turkish tea on the terrace with breathtaking view. The room was tidy and spacious enough for 3 people. The location of the hotel is great, it took us about 15-20 minute walk to get to Hagia Sophia
We spent 3 nights in this hotel. The location is very close to blue mosque, hagia sophia, restaurants and public transportation. The staff was really friendly and humble. They explained about hotel and suggested some awesome activities. However the best of this hotel is the terrace. It is located on 4th floor and it is showing directly the blue mosque. We were enjoying our view without any disruption.
Wonderful location - very close to two parks. Walking distance to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, boat tours, and restaurants. Very close to the sea. The landlord was super responsive. Apartment was clean and had enough of space.
Wow!! Amazing hotel, location & staff!!! Everything was just perfect! Top location! & excellent service!! Comfortable & very clean. Literally walking distance to everything!! Steps from Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet mosque & top sites. And really nice rooftop breakfast buffet daily! Best front desk staff!! Very helpful, friendly & highly professional!! These guys are the best!! Great cleaning staff too. Highly recommend.
Our stay at this hotel was outstanding, thanks to its unbeatable location just a 3-minute walk from both Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace entrace. The staff were exceptionally welcoming, and the room combined modern comforts with delightful city views. Ideal for anyone eager to explore Istanbul’s historic heart with ease. Highly recommended!
Nice Boutique Hotel in the center of Sultanahmet. Presents a great overall value for a location that becomes walkable for the major sites of Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, Galata Bridge. Rooms are comfortable and functional and the breakfast included was very good. Staff was perfect - all helpful and very attentive and can assist with booking tours, cars, or anything you need during your stay.
Clean and comfortable room. My room had a balcony outside where we could eat and drink something. Friendly and always helpful staff. Close to tramway, just a very few meters. Shower was wonderful and location could not be better. Just a few meters from Hagia Sophia. Very good price. Could not be better. I will come back to this hotel next time I go to Istanbul.
The apartment was perfectly located in the centre of Istanbul, a 5mins walk from all the major attractions such as Topkapi palace, Hagia Sophia etc.
There are amazing restaurants a few doors down, a mini supermarket and lotsof cafes. It's also literally down the road from the Bosphorus. Couldn't have been better positioned.
The owner Naif and his wife were amazingly hospitable, they treated us like family!
Location and value proposition was amazing. For the price I was expecting running water and maybe a bed, and was greeted with a hotel that was punching above its weight class; and it was about a 20 minute walk from the Hagia Sophia and surrounding historical buildings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to any friend who wants to visit Istanbul.

What Guests Said About Hagia Sophia:
Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside
Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside. Avoid the huge tour group queues & go straight to the top of the line, else you'll wait for hours. I was in (in both places), in 10 minutes without being pushy.
