On arrival he explained well about best places to visit on the island, gave guide and island map and suggested which best places to visit. We had a phenomenal stay at Solar de St. André. We stayed for a week and were blown away by the standard of the accommodation and the fantastic hospitality. Eduarda and her team are brilliant and genuinely go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We were always made to feel welcome and were even invited to a nearby concert, which was excellent. Marina deserves a special mention as she not only prepared fab breakfasts each morning, but gave us local advice, recommendations and just nice chit chat! Our room - the blue room - had everything we needed, super clean, well appointed and quiet. Comfortable bed. The hotel is like a museum, everything is charming and quaint but also modern and well-finished. Breakfast selection was always great, local produce and coffee always on hand . We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place.

Accommodations were perfect. Room was perfect. And the host went above and beyond to make our time here very special. And fresh eggs for breakfast were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the many local tips on places to dine and to get the best views of the southern coast of Sao Miguel. We highly recommend staying here. Great value, excellent conversation and host makes you feel very comfortable.

Situated in Ribeira Grande and within 300 metres of Ponte dos Oito Arcos, Matriz Guest House has a garden, non-smoking rooms, and free WiFi. All the family running the guesthouse were friendly people, and the food they provide and make themselves was a great touch.
