My Partner and I have visited Akaroa three times, the views are absolutely beautiful, the French heritage is evident, gardens are well maintained around the village. There are lots of little shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all.

Lots to do here. Great shops and cafes/restaurants. You must sail on the Fox II to see the dolphins, penguins and seals and learn about the local history. Outstanding!
Very walkable town and also some good hiking.

Akaroa is a must-visit township, it has some amazing cafes/restaurants, and the food is great and varied. Some of them have both inside and outside seating so it is lovely to take advantage of that on a nice day. There are also some great wee shops to visit where you can find a treasure of two. We found a gin-tasting cafe that is a must-visit when you are there and also an Indian Restaurant whose food was amazing. All the shops and cafes are within walking distance if your accommodation is in town. There are some great walks to go on and we also went swimming with the dolphins which is an experience I highly recommend when you are in Akaroa.

We loved the quaint historic town.
We loved the quaint historic town. We loved its French flavour. The cafe’s and restaurants outstanding especially Ma Maison where we had the best meal ever. The food, the flavours and the welcoming staff, outstanding! We had breakfast at The Common, again fabulous. We loved walking round the bay to the quay. Everyone was so friendly and happy to stop and talk. At the end of the quay was the prize, the beautiful pearl shop, an absolute must to visit. We can’t wait to return. Already planning a longer trip.

I have been a regular visitor as my French ancestors founded it. The only thing that stops me coming more often is that dangerous-feeling hill up and down. Nice, quiet (mostly) place that focuses on food, events and nature. Need to put in a lot more effort to add more genuine French flavour to shops and activities. A simple Bonjour is not too difficult. Akaroa's true French nature is being dumbed down by new arrivals who are only interested in commerical gain.
Property was well located and easy to find at the Akaroa Village Inn. We were able to walk everywhere to look around. The unit was well equiped with everything we needed for our overnight stay. It was very clean and the beds comfortable. It has a nice balcony that looks out over the wharf and waterfront which is a nice place to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. It had a coffee machine and pods as well as tea and coffee, but you need to bring your own milk.
Superb location. Private and close to akaroa centre. Quick drive to food places.
Beautiful environment, heaters and electric blankets worked well, v warm and comfortable.
Housekeeper started a fire to warm up the house for us before our arrival on a cold day. She responded immediately to my text messages too.
Book on akaroa was v informative and useful on what to do and where to eat.
Location was perfect. Close to Akaroa centre but far enough away in order to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and ambience of the beautiful house.
Hosts were exceptionally welcoming.
The evening drinks and canapés proved to be wonderful, relaxed and informal. Nice to meet other travellers.
Bedroom was well equipped, very nice toiletries.
The breakfast was absolutely outstanding.
The location - peaceful, lovely view of Akaroa township. Woodburner worked well, plenty of kindling and logs. Wifi worked well. Kitchen is small (no oven) but okay for a single cook / simple meals. We enjoyed the short walk from Overton Cottage to Akaroa via the mostly private walkway. Much nicer and safer than walking beside the highway. Take a torch if walking back at night.
We arrived on Labour Day public holiday and found the town humming with tourists. It had been 22 years since I was in Akaroa and once late afternoon arrived, then the tourists returned to Christchurch.
This property has its own waterfront area so it was great to see all the different varieties of birds on the rocks and in the water.
Sits well in Akaroa with all aspects. This property was top of the tree compared with the booking of Cute Cottage in Cooks Beach as we are seeking a rebate on that booking due to poor facilities as detailed in our comments already posted.
Beautiful historic cottage in lovely garden setting. Very peaceful spot - didn't want to leave!
Easy 10min walk into Akaroa township.
Cottage was beautifully furnished and decorated.
Bed very comfortable with lovely linen.
The room was spacious, warm and a fabulous view of the harbour from our balcony. Walking distance to everywhere in the Akaroa township. Comfy bed and pillows.
The room was very clean and value for money. We will stay again.
Beautifully furnished, comfortable and with commanding views of the harbour, this property exceeded our expectations. It sits on grounds with other cottages but privacy is guaranteed. Only 2mn drive out of Akaroa.
The house is so charming and right near all of Akaroa’s restaurants and shops. Breakfast was such a highlight — we loved getting to know other guests and of course Tim’s amazing food!
Lovely view and quiet location, convenient drive into Akaroa. Comfortable warm beds and warm house, especially with the fire on. Would definitely stay again!
