I really like Dundee but have only started visiting fairly recently. Prior to that it was always somewhere we stopped for a quick snack before heading on to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
For my 11 year old, she loves the shopping as we do let her loose by herself (which is not something I would allow in Glasgow or Edinburgh, too big) and I like the culture. The Discovery and the V&A are right next to each and good for a visit. The HMS Unicorn is also worth a visit and we have enjoyed the Science Centre and Camperdown Park previously.
There are some lovely pubs and restaurants, I have never met any rude staff, they are always so lovely and friendly.
Highly recommend a wee visit.

Plenty of things to do and see. We were there for a gig at The Caird Hall love the intimate atmosphere of the venue. Plenty of shops pubs and eating places. Easy to get to although new LEZ might be a bit of a nuisance for city centre things

Well I am going to say it is great going to Dundee as I am an expat.
Not too impressed with the V&A, Lovely building but disappointing inside. McManus is better. Up the Law Hill is well worth the visit even in the cold and wind etc. and Broughty Ferry is great for shopping and pubs etc.

Only a brief visit (open day visit to one of the Universities with son from England). Wish we had longer - lovely small city, friendly atmosphere and very beautiful location. New design museum a must. Will be back to see more of city and area, even if son does not end up at the Uni.

City centre has good museums and nice walks along the river. Good transport and city centre restaurants. Fabulous Thai restaurant next door to hotel, Italian and Indian restaurants short bus/taxi ride away. Good cafes for breakfast. Regular buses to seaside. Would have enjoyed better pubs without football screens. Hotels better for a quiet drink.

Visit Shackleton and Scotts ship Discovery, just outside the hotel, across the road, 5 mins away plus V&A. Also Dundee is where the Beano comic is published and it’s characters are featured in the V&A and in the city.
Apex is one of my no.1 to go while traveling to Dundee. Excellent location, parking always avaliable, nice views from the hotel rooms. Every single member of staff is very nice, polite and helpful! Even that front desk staff was extremely helpful and informative, I managed to get lost anyway, but then the housekeeping ladies helped me out again, they were very lovely and polite. The whole team of employees are exceptionally well trained to deal with customers. I think I like the atmosphere created by the whole of Apex team the most.
The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, including with parking. We liked the cool, minimalist vibe of Hotel Indigo. The rooms were comfortable. Dinner was delicious and a young man in charge called Lewis was especially good. The drinks list was fine, albeit slightly expensive. We loved the ground floor exhibits which highlight the history of Dundee in publishing, jute, jam. Hotel Indigo is an ideal location from which to explore Dundee, including the superb McManus.
The location is good, it's on the main street in the city centre, but that didn't mean it was noisey at all.
The facilities are alright, maybe it could be better with more but it's ok.
The rooms were fine, they're basic, but you pay a cheap price so that's alright.
Staff were good, and it's a curious place to go to, a weird old building (or two or three) so there's more character than some modern identikit hotel.
The proximity to the train station (attached) was a nice treat for the tired 11 and 13 year olds pulling their luggage. Right in the center of town. The bar in the hotel was lovely. The staff were friendly and professional. The room layout was good for a family of 4. The bunk beds were a bit of entertainment for the kids.
For the price, the holiday inn express in Dundee is a good choice. The chap on reception when we arrived around midnight after an awful journey was welcoming, friendly and efficient. The breakfast is what you would expect from a budget hotel but it was tasty and sufficient.
This hotel is a must stay if in Dundee 1st class from you enter reception, staff can't do enough for you visited with my family and will be back in the very near future. Facillities are superb and the swimming pool was nice and warm my grandaughter loved every minute.
Lovely suite. The complementary breakfast was excellent. The bathroom, bed and kitchen facilities were very good. the hotel staff were excellent - very friendly, helpful and informative. Close to a supermarket if you want to self cater.
Good location only a few minutes drive from Dundee
The bedroom room was quite spacious
Nice lounge area and bar to relax in
Free WiFi worked well
Plenty of free car parking at the back of the hotel
Friendly staff
The location is excellent for people arriving in Dundee via train.
My room was spacious and had a good view of the city.
I enjoyed spending time in the evening in the hotel bar, it was very pleasant.
A cheap, clean room in Dundee perfect for visiting the city. Kettle was nice touch and the bed was comfy. The Bar in the Main Hotel had a great drink selection and food was available.
The owners were lovely and very informative about the local area. We had a few fun chats. The hotel is near the main street where we had gorgeous food and even a karaoke evening.
Extremely friendly and hospitable hotel with pleasant, comfortable rooms and restaurant/bar. Very enjoyable stay. Worked perfectly for our cycling event in Dundee.
The usual excellent standard of the accommodation, the friendly staff in all areas of the hotel plus exceptional food and wine. The Club room was great
