With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.
A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.
The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.
Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.
Museum, ancient monuments, and open locations are wonderful.
Museum, ancient monuments, and open locations are wonderful. Also the climate at the end of April that allows you to walk around is perfect. You have absolutely to try local restaurants that deliver traditional dishes of Greek cuisine. Prepare in advance your visit, because there are many events in Athens and it's better to arrive prepared not to miss nice and interesting events.

We were in Athens for 4 days and in my opinion it is enough time to visit the most important places and even go to the seaside. It is worth checking the opening hours of the facilities before planning your visit. in fact, most are accessible within walking distance.

I have never been to Athens before, but this was my first trip here and I absolutely loved it. The food is delicious and the prices are quite similar to other countries I have visited, so I did not find them expensive. If you walk around and explore, you will find many economic and excellent options for food. I did not face any issues related to transportation. However, I heard from the locals that it's important to be careful with your bag and phone and avoid wearing gold jewellery to avoid any unpleasant situations.

Deserves 5 days.
Deserves 5 days. Ruins are nice but the best part of the city is the vibe, the history, the people, the food. Can't get a feel over the weekend. Visit Aegina, Capo sunio, Walk around all day and really see Athens. I did 12 kilometers per day with 2 kids. Worth it.

For my opinion I felt a bit bored of Athens, besides the Parthenon that is of course a must see place and the neighbourhood of Plaka, there isn't any much more to do,
I would highly recommend to just spend one day there is plenty enough and will recommend you to visits the island that a way more beautiful and more fun do to such as Paros or Mykonos

Athens is a great city to visit because most of the main attractions are centrally located. We walked everywhere in the central historical area - though even in our 60s, we are fit - it may not be for everyone, so simply buy the multiday metro/tram/bus ticket.
The central historical area is amazing; just buy the 6+1 combo ticket on line (Acropolis plus 6 additional sites). You will have to pick the time and date that you will enter the Acropolis, but the other sites you can visit anytime over the three-day validity of the ticket. It is a shame about the scaffolding on the Parthenon....just the way of things - don't let it spoil your trip.
The change of the guard at Syntagma (right outside the Metro and up the steps) is unusual to say the least. Very exacting and ceremonial, it left me thinking, 'Just get on with it!' but it was spellbinding to watch.
From the airport, the metro is your friend - goes right into the city center and lots of stops with one bound to be near your place.
Pack light ! Avoid the big suitcases - you won't need the contents. One walking shoes, one nicer pair! Athens is relaxed and makes do with less.
Eating: Instead of heading directly to the hubbub of Syntagma, Monastiraki, or Kolonaki, venture a little into the backwaters. You'll be better looked after and at a cheaper price.
This is the second time I have stayed here on my trip in Greece, when I left first it was fully booked, but there was a cancellation and I happily came back the last days. Super clean, super comfy beds. The best place I have ever stayed, it already felt like home and I didn't want to leave. They make you feel at home there. I made very nice friendships too. The last few nights we shared dinners and it was very nice. I will miss you guys mi familia! And the jacuzzi! if I come back to Athens it will always be my first choice!
Philia Boutique is a very nice and new hotel. Great location very close to Syntagma square and some of the best dining spots in Athens. Good quality breakfast that you can choose to have served on your balcony, patio or in the lobby. Comfortable room with great amenities and nice balcony overlooking the church. At the time we visited the hotel there were ongoing noisy construction works right in front of the hotel but the rooms are well soundproofed so it didn't bother us at all.
We stayed at green suites multiple times over a 3 week trip hopping around Greece and Turkey, and we stayed multiple times for a reason! Actually, many reasons. The staff is exceptional in their professionalism and friendliness. The rooftop was cozy in the winter. The welcome drinks, regular drinks, and food were always delicious. The rooms felt luxurious and were always clean. When I return to Athens, I’ll definitely be returning to Green Suites!
The breakfast was quite gthowever the coffees varied from day to day. It was surprising to find a hotel of this quality using a big coffee urn. Other hotels we have stayed at in Greece have machines where you can make a variety of different fresh ground coffee. We were at the hotel for 5 nights. The breakfast was overall quite good with lots of variety. My only complaint was the coffee
This Hotel is simply amazing and worths way more than only 2-stars. Best breakfast that we had in whole Greece on a rooftop with stunning view over the Acropolis. Cosy and spacious and stylish rooms and located in the best neighborhood in Athens (at least in my opinion.) Best restaurants, nice little shops, authentic and no tourist atmosphere and only 1 metro-ride from monastiraki.
Getting access and the keys was easy. It is a very big apartment by Greece standards with no tv in the lounge room. It is located a minutes walk from Monastitaki station and an easy walk to the sites of Athens with no tv in the lounge room. Right across the road is a luggage storage shop, Mr John is more than happy to help with no tv in the lounge room.
Good basic hotel from which to explore Athens.
V short walk to Syntagma Square for bus/metro links to airport.
Also an easy walk to ancient sites and museums (Acropolis etc) and to the hive of tourism activity which is the Plaka.
Better breakfast than we expected for the price.
Quite a quiet street; we didn’t notice any traffic noise at night.
Plaka’s Heart is located in a perfect position to explore Athens not only for cultural but also for the food Greece has to offer. The accommodation is located on the third floor easily accessible by a lift & to an upstairs common roof top, which could use an upgrade of furniture. The fridge was laden with some goodies, which was appreciated.
Everything - the staff, and especially Zoe, were all so helpful and courteous; the location was fabulous; the room was a wonderful size for us - roomy, clean, and all the amenities you would want in a hotel. We have already recommended the V1935 to our friends who are talking about going to Greece. We would give them 5 Stars! 😀
Vouliagmeni Suites is a beautiful hotel located on the coast close to Athens, Greece. It is ideal to have a relaxing holiday, the personnel, from the cleaners to reception, (the George s, Dmitris and especially Maria) are superb while Yannis and his colleagues made sure we were fed and watered at all times. Superb!!
The room was great! Probably the best most comfortable bed we slept in in 2 weeks in Greece. The hotel location was very convenient and walkable to everything and right next to the train station line that takes you straight to the airport. Breakfast was excellent and had a view of the Parthenon
I booked this hotel very last minute for when I landed in Greece and then again the night before leaving since I was so pleased. Found the paid breakfast quite worthwhile. Also appreciated the excellent food at the restaurant as well as friendly service at the lobby bar. Recommended to all.
After a late flight to Athens, it was a luxury to walk across the street to this hotel. And wow the room was super comfortable, very quiet and dark. The room and food was a bit pricier than the rest of Greece but that’s to be expected for a hotel with this proximity.
The hotel was clean, everything was washed and fresh. Had one of the best elevators in greece we have used (the whole family and luggage fit) carpark was great we park right outside the front door in the the free parking and lastly the breakfast was nice and light.
I loved our host. She was so accommodating and helped us so much. We were in Greece during a taxi strike and she made us very comfortable tortellini us how to qget to airport. It was a beautiful apartand the neighborhood in Athens the best. I will be back.
This facility was the meeting place for our Rick Steves' Greece tour. You don't expect 5 star accommodations but 3+ star, affordable hotels that are clean, serve a good breakfast, and typically close to the action. Check, check, check. No complaints here.
Awesome staff , with pasted smile's across their face's each day.
Absolutely recommend Pan hotel Athens, we've been coming for almost 20 yrs , each time we're in Athens Greece.
Thank You for Your service's, Helpful And Unconditional Support.
Love You.
Right next to bus & train station. Upon first ariving to Greece I had no phone connection, so this hotel was very nice because it was so easy to find. Got off train, turned to the left, and it was right there.
Best breakfast, we had in 4hotels in Greece on this trip . Beautiful roof top bar . Reception staff really friendly , great restaurant recommendation from kostas
