Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.
Proudly Caribbean, Cartagena’s soul gives the rhythm to the streets, and the music coming out of cafés and restaurants is nothing but a physical manifestation of its collective spirit. Follow the beat, get to the seaside, and have one of your best holidays. Hotels near Cartagena de Indias’ beaches will be the perfect stage.

Cartegena has so much culture and history. The food was fantastic! There is live music in every restaurant and bar. Traditional dancing can be found in the squares and you just need to tip. Just be aware of all the street hustlers, especially the rappers who will follow you. The old town comes alive after 8pm. Be prepared for the 90-100% humidity during the mid-day. It is best to site see early in the morning or evening and siesta or pool lounge during the mid day.

The "Old City" is beautiful and historic - and has excellent gelato! Unfortunately, no Dr Pepper...
The beaches are good, and provide a diversion (or a primary reason to go, if you are young) and a completely different atmosphere.

Lots to do if you work with local tourist agents.
Lots to do if you work with local tourist agents. Leave the area and go to Baru for glowing plankton or boats to Rosario archipelago. Old town. Watch out for street vendors selling trinkets and being too pushy.

A lot of great food options, best seafood in Colombia.
A lot of great food options, best seafood in Colombia.
Our favorites:
- La Cevicheria
- La Mulata
- Cafe del Mar ( bit pricey for what it is, but worth it for the sunset drinks )
- El baron ( great tapas in the middle of the square )
Town with a rich history and lots of important landmarks and sights to visit. Great colonial architecture, colorful streets and lively people.
It is very touristic, with a lot of locals non stop trying to sell/push tours/restaurants and goods on the street, felt a bit like India sometimes. There are great street performances of dance groups and artists happening, which i enjoyed a lot though!

Great place to visit as long as you don't mind being harrassed non stop by street vendors trying to sell you hats, cigars, sunscreen, tchotchkes and other things, having menus constantly thrown in your face or being honked at by multiple cab drivers if you stop on a sidewalk for even a second wanting to know if you need a ride. Everything worth seeing in Cartagena can be seen in one day, two tops if you want to see some places out side the city

The hotel was in a excellent area at 10 minutes drive from the main area of Cartagena where all the bar, restaurants and clubs are and also like 10 minutes from the airport which is very convenient. It was also in from of Playa Marbella. The hotel was very clean and the customer service was excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful when it comes to inform your about activities, places to go, etc. Also the pool area was nice to relax. They also have breakfast included which it was topical Colombian breakfast.
The location is 10/10. Located right outside the centro histórico walls, right down the street from the Serrezuela Mall. Even more important for me, it’s located right the street from Marsol, the best mode of transport between Cartagena-Barranquilla-Santa Marta. The hotel is great, my room was huge and everything worked really well. AC excellent, wifi excellent, hot water excellent, clean, nice bed. Great price as well compared to other expensive hotels in Cartagena. One of my favorite hotels. 10/10
We have visited Cartagena many times, this would have been the first time staying at this hotel. The location is convenient, I know the area very well. Walking distance to the beach, T102 bus route right out front, many restaurants around the hotel. Over the past few years, the neighborhood has been cleaning up little by little. Few, if any tourist vendors around the area, not like in Bocogrande, Centro or in the Old City. Much better for walking around.
This is one of my favorite hotels anywhere. The staff are my absolute favorites. Kelly, Susanna, etc will make your stay with them great. I was lucky enough to meet one of the owners on this trip (my 3rd at this hotel) and he’s a complete gentleman. This is the type of place you want to stay at when visiting Cartagena. It has the charm of the old city. There’s a great rooftop with a pool, and the breakfasts are phenomenal. I highly recommend!
I only stayed for one night but it really matched my expectations. The room was clean and confortable, the breakfast was good and it's a 5 min walking distance from the airport. Shout out to the staff, the girls were kind and helpful. However, I would only recommmend Luna Hotel for those who are going to spend no more than 2 nights in Cartagena, since it's far from the city center (the main touristic area). It's convenient for a stopover only.
Great hotel in the heart of old city. The staff were exceptional: accommodated late check in when our flight was delayed, looked after our bags on check out day whilst we had lunch and arranged taxi to airport. The room was spacious, modern, clean and comfortable. Situated within a residential complex it had 24 hour security. Electric kettle and cups were provided. Superb and affordable.
The hotel was in a very convenient location in a walking distance from both the Old City and the Getsemani area (~10 minutes walk). It’s also close to the port from where the boats are leaving to Rosario Islands. The room was clean and quite big, and the staff were very friendly. The hotel has a restaurant and a swimming pool bar, which we did not use but maybe helpful to know.
THE HOTEL IS A CLASSIC IN CARTAGENA. HIS OLD FASHION MODE IS REALLY COOL FOR A PLACE THAT IS FULL OF HISTORY AND TRADITION LIKE THIS HOTEL. THE ROOMS SHOULD BE SOMELIKE REFURBISHED SPECIALLY THE AIR CONDITIONER A LITTLE BIT NOISY . THE STAFF IS VERY ATTENTIVE AND THE OPEN AREAS AROUND THE SWIMINGPOOL ARE VERY ENJOYABLE AND BEATIFULL .
I live outside of Cartagena and I always come to town for meetings and errands, this has been one of my favorite finds in Getsemaní, the staff was great, the breakfast included was really fast and edible in comparison with what I've gotten at other hotels and hostels in the area. The value for the price is unbeatable
The room was really lovely, staff was supportive, the little pool on the roof was refreshing, the location was just perfect, simple, but tasty breakfast, very quite place in a busy street, super comfortable beds, fresh water available, the green program. I give 10, as this was the nicest hotel in Colombia we had.
Great service from all staff members, great facilities and amazing view.
Perfect location too, very convenient with a mall right by the hotel if you need to buy anything and about a 15min walk to the old city centre with many cool restaurants and bars (we felt safe walking both during the day and at night).
Helpful host. In Old city but quiet compared to many hotels. Beautiful sea view.. Set in an elegant former university building. Lift worked well. Security good as it has 24 hour front desk with vigilant staff. Bathroom and AC all good. Very clean.. Really nice place to stay. Recommend unreservedly.
A great staff. Everyone was so friendly and kind. I cannot say enough good about the staff. Everyone from the front desk to the kitchen to the housekeeping. Wonderful . The hotel is close to tourist attractions. I walked to Mallplaza and the fortress. Grocery store near the hotel
The hotel is located in the middle of old town Cartagena where you can find variety of shops, local food stalls and almost everything you can guess in Colombia. This is not a luxury hotel, however the service (front desk, proximity of laundry) is good and the people are smiley and nice.
We had stayed inside the city walls for 3 nights and chose to stay in this hotel for 2 nights sun & R&R before moving on from Colombia. The hotel is nice and has a really good restaurant. We had breakfast once and lunch twice - each meal was delicious.
Pros: Clean, good AC, good location, wifi worked good, good price. All around a good hotel for the price. Had lots of plans for Cartagena and really only needed a good clean hotel to sleep and Ibis was it. very good value for the price.
The hotel is in an excellent location for enjoying the night life of Getsemani and for visiting the old city and fortress. The facility is secure with buzz in entrance and exit. The air conditioning was very good. Nice hot shower.
This Hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff is absolutely fantastic. Casa Isabel set my new benchmark for boutique Hotels: Personal, friendly, well thought through and really really nice staff.
Beautiful hotel with lovely staff and fantastic breakfast! Location within the old city perfect and great historical surroundings. Very comfy and stylish hotel!
Room was big but with 3 beds, more like a hostel and not a hotel. The location is great near the Ciudad Amurallada and in the center of Getsemaní. Pool is good.
