- Stonetown buildings are a vintage but lacks maintenance, it makes the area look a bit untidy. Also the rusted roofing or corrugated sheets makes the aaerial view not beautiful. Painting them and the buildings will bring an added beauty to the image of stonetown.

Friendly people with a lot of places to visit.
However there is a lack of food prices diversity. Most good food is somehow expensive and the cheapest food was bad.
However my favourite place to eat during evening was at the small restaurant near the Mkunazini Anglican Cathedral where delicious rice dishes are served.
Couples can enjoy the tours to Prison Island and around Stone town

I sailed as a sea captain all around the island, including Pemba island. I spent here almost 2 months altogether. From tourist places, I liked Nungwi beaches. You have to know, most of tourist resorts are situated outside of local civilization. If you want to go shopping or to the local restaurant, you need to order a taxi everytime and the prices are high. The food and alcohol is quite expensive even for europeans. The locals are kind, although sometimes annoying if they are selling something. I felt absolutely safe, more than in EU. Traffic in the inlands is terrible, try to avoid travelling on these roads. Negotiate the price (taxi etc) before drive. They are able to ask 50 USD for 3 kilometres of ride after. If I could decide, I would try another exotic islands. Zanzibar needs 5-10 years to improve the services for tourist, infrastructure etc.

Navigating Zanzibar City was surprisingly easy, with an array of transportation options available. The compact size of the city made it convenient to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance of each other. I would definitely suggest trying the local Swahili food for fresh fish and seafood.
For a visitor from South Africa, I found the price of food and drinks at restaurants relatively expensive.
I stayed at this hotel with my husband. We booked the presidential suite with a sea view. Waking up in the morning and going out to her balcony to watch the sea, people on the beach and the ships was worth every single penny. Imagine just lounging on the balcony in the evening with the quiet bustle and ocean sounds. We loved it so much that we have decided to return to it on our last couple of days of vacation. The staff is super helpful and welcoming. They have amazing accommodations such as a pool where you can relax
We stayed at the hotel after our flight from France as we felt it was useless to drive one hour to our holiday destination late in the evening. The hotel is located two minutes drive away from the airport. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant, room comfortable with a very nice bed, great bathroom with italien walk in shower, nice terrasse and pool area. A great hotel for a night after or before your flight or if you want a modern hotel in Zanzibar city with easy access to Stone town. Very good value for money.
Zanzibar Coffee House is an amazing old palazzo in the heart of Stone Town. It has pedestrian access only, although you risk getting run down by motorbikes in the ancient narrow streets. Zanzibar Coffee House is part cafe-part hotel. It is quite expensive (coffee is UK prices) and not plush, but full of character. Despite the prices, don't expect western standards. If it's luxury you're looking for, this isn't for you. However if you want to enjoy an incredible historic environment, this is a great experience.
Staff was kind and helpful. Especially bar tenders were flexible for special requests and they tried to do their best. Our package was all inclusive. Selection of drinks were quite enough for this package.
Hotel's location is little far from airport but it is exactly somewhere middle of the jungle. I can say I generally liked the atmosphere right over there and Swimming pool options were fine.
Room was okay. Especially I liked the balcony with garden view. Breakfast and Lunch menus were satisfying.
The stunning property and the impeccable service culture are in a class of their own. I booked three rooms for three friends and everyone agreed that staying in the Serena Zanzibar is worth every penny. The attentive nature of all the staff makes it very relaxing and luxurious. The grounds are beautiful with the most stunning views of the sea. You can easily reach anywhere in Town from the Serena and go for walks on the beach as the hotel is directly on the sea.
Incredible value for money. Generous comfortable room, with a fabulous bed + AC, fan and fridge. Location is perfect for exploring Stone Town. The staff were wonderful, and accommodated a late check out as no one was arriving to stay in our room that day. Highly recommend their sister restaurant Archipelago, delicious food (the King Fish and Prawns were amazing) beautifully located on the beach front to watch the sun set, and romantically lit at night.
Breakfast was fine; a buffet, with enough food and enough variety. The restaurant was very pleasant, semi-outdoor setting by the swimming pool, in the garden. The hotel is very attractive, and located in Stone Town which I really liked. However, this meant that the last 100 metres to the hotel were on foot, which was a bit of a surprise on arrival. Luckily it was not raining at that time.
I was so lucky to trust my gut . I had no expectations but I was blown away by the service , design and staff at Shoki Shoki . the hotel is new furnished with Swahili design . there is free wifi and it’s 2 min walk to all places I wanted to check out in Stone town . the manager was amazing and also offers transport to airport at small fee.
Breakfast was very delicious at only $3
The hotel is right at the center. It was very easy to get around however the check in process took some time but the staff were very helpful. The lunch chicken biryani meal at the restaurant was super 👌. It was my first time in stone town so I was alittle scared of security but Faisah at the reception was very helpful in getting me guides to shop for spices.
Wonderful historic house directly in stone town. The employees have been kind and caring. The room (Suite) was spacious and is decorated with historical Charme. The food and drinks are good and at a decent price. We also did the city tour, the spice farm tour as well as some transfers from the hotel. Good service abs customer orientation.
Hotel situated in a historic building in Stone Town, close to all major attractions within walking distance. The room we stayed in was very spacious and decorated with antique furniture that gave it a special touch. The pool area is very nice and the terrace has a great view of the city.
- Location: The location of this hotel was central. We could walk almost anywhere in Stone Town.
- Hotel Architecture: The hotel has the most beautiful architecture and historical imagery throughout.
- Safe & Clean: We felt very safe and comfortable.
Breakfast was incredible, and the staff was very accommodating. I only wish I had more time to enjoy here. If I go back to Zanzibar and stay in Stone Town, I will definitely consider staying at Shaba Boutique Hotel.
Great location if you stay at the Hotel. It's right on the beach and in the hub of Stonetown. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was included and it was fabulous!!
Hotel was so clean. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Jackson who helped us throughout our stay. Definitely one of the best hotels we have stayed in stone town.
The food was good and the service excellent. The Hotel is in the perfect position, right on the beach and close to all the tourist attractions in Stonetown.
