One of the main attractions of the city is St. Stephan church with the colourful stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. The weekly market in front of the Cathedral features everything a traveller could wish, from flowers to fresh local products and clothes.
You should not miss the futuristic building of the New Synagogue designed by Manuel Herz, as well as the museums of Mainz State, Ancient Shipping and the Gutenberg Museum.
Known for its sparkling wine, Mainz is Germany’s wine capital thanks to its excellent 200-year tradition. The natural reserve of the Mainz Sand Dunes is home to pre-glacial plant vestiges and rare animals.
Frankfurt International Airport is about 20 km away and has flights to Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Madrid and Copenhagen. Designed by Philipp Johann Berdellé, the Central Station of Mainz Hauptbahnhof connects the city with Mannheim and Rüsselsheim. A visit to St. Stephan church to see the Chagall windows is must
Also the Gutenberg museum and seeing the first books ever printed plus the first printing machine and the evolving of printing was absolutely fascinating

Mainz is a fantastic city.
Mainz is a fantastic city. It has all the flavors what I long for. The strong history heritage, z.b. Mainz dom; the best wein Jard region of the world, z.b Rhine Weingau; authentic German food; the active growing business environment; the city is not big but just big enough for everything. Mainz is the city , the longer you stay, the more you love and you will go away. Ich liebe Mainz.

The location is great if you have an early departure from the train station, but not so great if you want to go out to the old town in the evening.
What I liked was the convenience around my train trip snd the good quality of the hotel.

Mainz is a relatively small city founded in Roman times and
Mainz is a relatively small city founded in Roman times and
sits where the Rhine and Main rivers meet. Some Roman ruins still remain.
There is plenty of good shopping, places of interest and some great restaurants, a couple of days in the city is probably enough.
The Rhine forms the border between Rhineland Palatinate and Hessen, so you may need different travel tickets if you leave Mainz itself.
To see further afield, either the rhineland or hessen day tickets give up to five people unlimited rail travel for a very reasonable cost (about £30) so you can explore a large area cheaply.

I was there for work, so I didn’t act much as a tourist.
I was there for work, so I didn’t act much as a tourist.
Anyway I think that Mainz is a rather typical German city with an interesting Altstadt and good transportation. All the other districts I visited were rather abandoned, with tones of waste on the streets and an air of what the French call “decadence”. I didn’t feel safe walking back to my hotel at night and for 4 whole days I didn’t meet just one policeman.
Centrally located apartment, offering great convenience and comfort. A fully equipped kitchen stocked with cooking essentials and herbs, as well as a luxurious bathroom with premium amenities, made this a delightful stay. Thoughtful touches throughout,, this charming apartment exceeded my expectations, providing everything I needed for a perfect one week stay. I'm glad I chose this over a hotel.
The hotel is 25 minutes' walk from the Mainzer Dom and it's a modern building in a nice are that it's being renovated. A parking garage is not far away, in case you don't want to use the hotel one, which can fill quickly. Breakfast is pretty good, but you have to go before 9:30, when it can be pretty busy, The self-check-in is nice and effective. The room is modern, comfortable and quite.
We cant arrive because we have a really big problem that loose a bag with passport etc and we have to return to the city we loose it. We explain to the hotel that we have really documents of the police that explain the reason that we can reach the reservation. We told to booking but the payment was already make. :(
Hotel design and atmosphere is very best. Rooms cosy. Fitness and sauna is the best in Mainz for this moment, I think. Reliable, friendly personnel. Bed comfortable, bed linen white, clean and starched.Location is very comfortable for any trips to center of Mainz, river trips and trips to near cities.
The hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff are welcoming. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had plenty of room with a very good shower. The location is quiet and characterful but is only a short distance from shops and transport into the centre of Mainz.
B&B Hotel is a great value with small, efficiently-laid-out rooms. I only stayed here because a train delay forced me to wait overnight to get home on the next train, but I was very grateful to find an affordable, clean, comfortable spot to spend the night.
This hotel never disappoints! I've stayed here many times in the past 15 years and will stay there again when I'm in Mainz. Staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. Breakfast is awesome! Proximity to bus and train is a definite plus.
Hotel Roemerstein offers good value for money. Rooms are neat and in good condition. Nice variety of choices for breakfast, albeit simple. I particularly enjoyed the proximity to the University campus in Mainz. Excellent location.
Location is amazing, right by all the Old City attractions, easy to walk around. There was a problem with the apartment so we ended up moving to the associated hotel. The manager was amazing, very friendly and helpful.
Very nice hotel right opposite Mainz main train station. Very nice staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable beds and newly renovated bathroom. The room itself has the 1970s decor, but was clean and comfortable.
The hotel is at a stunning location. Several rooms, including the one in which we stayed, was right on the Rhine. The facilities (pool, spa) were great. Outside of one issue, the staff were extremely helpful.
The hotel was super clean with helpful staff. The hotel quality in total was better than its price. Also, the breakfast was very fenomenal and delicious with various hat and cold meals.
